Mcdavid needs a Kunitz. Someone that can cover for him, grind in the corners, etc. I really like what Hyman does but those two could use some size and strength on their line.
Nuge was pretty good at covering for him but he’s lost a step and was never a big strong guy.
Or they did Detroit a favour plus are planning to move out a lot of money. Which means they want to meet the cap floor?
Paying $3 million for our goaltending isn’t the flex management seems to think it is. You kinda get what you pay for.
I thought the same way watching the 4N but then he did win and he did shut the Bruins down a few years ago in a big game seven. So if he’s another Skinner, at least he has a winning pedigree and that has to be worth something?
It's not the worst move in the world for them. They can likely resign Husso to be the back up for cheap in the off-season. Dostal for 5.5 per and Husso for 1.5 as a back probably fits into their internal salary cap. Now they need someone to eat some of that Gibson salary for them.

FWIW Skinner has better numbers in elimination games.
Binnington’s basically an older Skinner wrapped in a new skin with a 6M price tag (plus whatever acquisition cost you’d have to pay to get him). I’d honestly prefer Gibson - he has a much higher ceiling.
I’ll take the cups over numbers. I hear what you’re saying though and you do make a good point. I’m not sold on Gibson because he’s made of glass. So if it were between the three, I still take me a Binnington. Just because of the hardware as it’s pretty thin between the three of them otherwise.

He is better than Skinner and has proven twice that he can win the big game. He may not be a great goalie, but he is definitely better than Stu.

I mean I'm not even a big Binnington fan, but comparing Skinner to Binnington as co-equals is like saying Steve Kerr was just like Michael Jordan minus the athleticism.
Binnington is one the three best athletes in the game in net probably, Skinner is on the total other end of that spectrum.

Bringing in Husson more then likely means Verbeek isn’t going to miss his chance to finally unload Gibson, when push comes to shove he’ll take what he can get.
Verbeek hasn’t been hanging onto him waiting for his price to be met, he’s been hanging onto him because he couldn’t even give Gibsons contract away. He’s under the gun now though because he has to pay Dostal in the summer and that franchise doesn’t want to be paying 11-12M to two goalies and the longer Verbeek holds out the greater the chances Gibson gets injured or goes back to being shit and the opportunity to unload him disappears. He’ll be gone at the deadline and it won’t be for assets like 1st or high end prospects unless he’s coming with a ton of retention and or other assets.

Someone DM’d me asking how I was feeling and just to set the record straight, I’ve been fine. A confluence of events that started with my mother‘s health taking a turn for the worse over Christmas, finishing a new house, getting ready to pack and move, a new puppy, visitors from overseas, and just the regular pace of life, things have been a little insane so I had to unplug a couple of things for a short while.
Should be a little more regular on here now until we move in a couple of weeks and then I will have a few million boxes to unpack!

Yep, it's amazing to me that people are oblivious to this. Anaheim's ownership isn't going to be happy about dolling about big dollars to Dostal and still having to pay Gibson big money for multiple more years.
They gave away Fowler for nothing to save money on Trouba even though they are easily way below the cap and could have afforded both. They operate with an internal budget.
If the Oilers take Gibson even at 50% retention the fact of the matter is we are effectively paying for 3.2 million of Dostal's raise for the next two years. That's how Anaheim's ownership will look at it. That's a whole lot better than nothing.

They both let in the same number goals (2) in the championship game: the only difference is that the Oilers scored 1 goal whereas Canada managed to tie it.
If you want to assign some arbitrary measure to Binnington being a winner then fair enough, but they both have pretty similar stats overall (both in elimination games and otherwise).
