If I was Dubas, I’d fire him on the spot if he goes 11-7 in game 1.

He wouldn’t have a job after the 1st period.
I dont think 11 7 will stay but right now thats make a lot of sense

A lot of newcomer in d who need to play and find chemistry with rest of the team and to see wich pair working well together and whos not

Best way to improve this team going forward...send Reilly on the wing! I still don't understand why they didn't pull a Wendal on him when he got into the NHL.

Logic is not allowed after a loss.

There is one roster player out, and Knies will likely play, I can't see them running 11/7 in the playoffs.

He has Norris votes and is better than pretty much all our D.

Right now the most important thing for leafs is not win or lost, its to find the best chemistry possible for playoff. Thats alsi why we see a lot of different line up look

I just can't believe how utterly useless Rotund Rielly, our #1defenceman, has been the past 5 games. Logging the most minutes of any defenceman, including over 18 minutes in this game, and playing the powerplay, he has ZERO points in the past 3 games and only 2 assists in the past 5. Afraid to shoot on the PP, hesitant in passing on the PP, ludicrously lost on defence, careless in joining the attack, and generally ineffectual for someone earning what he is.

And yet, Keefe continues to play him on the PP. He claims he's going to experiment with the team, including the stupid 11/7 split and Kerfoot on the first line, yet he refuses to change anything purtaining to Rielly. Whether it be trying someone else on the PP or the last minute when goalie is pulled, or limiting his minutes, or even sitting him out for a game or 2, there is no experimentation to be done there. People complain about the disappointments in the goaltending, or Holl, or Kerfoot, but based on how much he is earning Rielly is by far the biggest disappointment of this Leaf season.

Leadership/ maturity its both. Thats why they traded for acciari, ror and schenn... hope those guy would be able to push the rest of the team in the right direction come playoff

Coach cant go on the ice and play for player, i dont thing with a new coach it would be different...
I don't think leadership is only what happens on the ice, and I think Keefe is a large part of the problem. Call it preparation or motivation or whatever you like.

Keefe is NOT the coach for this team, he's out to lunch on many fronts, this 11-7 BS needs to stop, kerfoot and Holl need to be sitting and team needs proper allocation of the D pairings.

Leafs had the same exact problem with babcock, they change the coach and this problem still there... they can change for a new one, the problem will still there...

Thats will never change until matthews, marner, nylander and key player will decide to play full 60 min during 82 gm... if they didn't change, that will still the case again and again, simple as that

Like the Leafs last night, I am completely unfazed and apathetic to this loss. Ya, it is frustrating to lose a game where you take a lead into the 3rd period, but at the end of the day we deserved what we got.

I know some on here expect a level of compete and excellence from these guys night in and night out, but that is just not reality. Especially at this time of year when playoff seeding has all but been determined for quite some time. We played a more desperate team and it showed.

This team will always be judged by what they do in 1 month's time, not by what they have done or not done in the regular season. I am not going to draw any irrational conclusions from a dominating win or loss at this point in the season. I expect the group will start to ratchet things up in the last couple weeks of the season to prime their minds for what hopefully will be a long playoff run. No need to start that grind now.

I think we are seeing that same level of apathy from the coaching staff as well. It's less about the outcomes at this point vs. getting guys touches and experimenting. This 11F + 7D setup is so bush league and something i would be absolutely shocked to see them implement in the playoffs. It serves 2 fold. They get the surplus of D-men reps, and it also means they are forced to try different combos of forwards all game long.

I genuinely don't think I've been less mad about losing a 2 goal lead.

This was not the result I was expecting when I stepped out and it was 2-0 and I didn't find out the score until I got home late at night.

Oh well it happens in pretty much meaningless games .. what does not work is Holl and McCabe .. McCabe looks like dog sh*t with Holl .. Holl should not be playing pretty much everyone he goes with whether Gio or now McCabe looks brutal when he becomes their partner .. Rielly was ok last night with Brodie who is our best D night in night out .. hopefully holl sits with Schenn back in .. Lily looked to me like he was out of position all night too (1st game in awhile where he looked bad) .. Lafferty looked like he took night off or maybe he just can't get comfortable with 11 and 7 but he looked weak to me from stands .. on positive side Matty and Willy looked very good last night and our 4th line played great too .. issues on both 2nd and 3rd lines which was where da 11 and 7 i think got things out of sync

Sorry but since mccabe trade, liljegren probably was probably the worst leafs D, so the best i can see lilly is as 6th with gio

Not sure why Gustafsson is even in the lineup. If you’re not going to use him on your top PP unit, what’s the point of him?

I guess it’s good to try out different combinations right now but it would also be smart to play your ideal pairings and lineups given the playoffs aren’t far away.

Liljegren has had a couple rough games as of late, his best was with Rielly and vice versa.

McCabe and Brodie worked really well. Giordano and Holl works good as your third pairing.

And im pretty sure schenn will play with rielly... so where lilly will be? Probably out of the line up

If liljegren dont have better game until playoff, i cant see him playing game 1

Is there any news about Schenn’s wife? Did she give birth yet? When’s he expected to re-join the team?

Keefe is trying to find which defensive pairs work well together consistently, by not playing any two defencemen together consistently.

Except for Matthews and Marner (who clearly work well together) and JT and Willy (who clearly don't), he's doing the same Mixmaster with the forwards.

I can see the problem with the D, as he has one top pairing, two 4-5, and (I've lost count - eight? nine?) 6-7-8 players. Too many one-dimensional bodies.

Jarnkrok - Lafferty - Nylander look good in their one game together, so they immediately get split up for the next.

JT looks much better on the wing than at centre, so move him back to centre.

Kerfoot looks bad on the top line (look at how Mitch wouldn't even consider passing to him on a 2on1, although I did like the foot pass to AM), but that's the only line that stays intact, at least to start.

Atleast there are a lot less Keefeologists running around here.

We've tried other players on the PP, Rielly is not the Problem!

PP was garbage when he was hurt this season.

Tried Sandin, to finish off the 2021 season and into the playoffs, the PP with Sandin on the A unit went an absolutely mind boggling 1 goal for and 2 goals against over ~30 opportunities.

Tried Barrie for much of his season, despite multiple seasons of PP success under his belt - an absolute disaster with Barrie. Who then went on to QB the best PP in hockey immediately after leaving the Leafs.

Our PP has issues, but Rielly isn't the problem. If anything he's a big part of what's holding things together.
