Yep he looks total 180 than how he did beforeThe team has straight up destroyed Liljegrens confidence after trading for 3 new defensemen, sitting him for multiple games and basically telling him that any mistakes will get him out of the lineup. It's insanity how they've handled the young Swedish defensemen who were having excellent seasons before the deadline.
IMO, they should do their experimenting game by game, not shift by shift.I don't think the 11-7 plan is responsible for this low effort loss.
I'm totally expecting the defencemen to get sorted out a bit over the next little while. And I have no issue going with 7 in a game until that happens. It's just showing that they're experimenting with different pairs and options. This is the time to do that testing. Not an issue.
Small sample size using someone other than Rielly to make any definite conclusions. I think there may be other issues with the PP (which btw may not be many given we're #3 in the league) but Rielly is definitely the biggest issue. This season he has ONE powerplay goal, only 13 in his career. Heck, Dougie Hamilton and Roman Josi have 8 this year alone. When defencemen like Heiskanen, Theodore, Petry, Skjej, Faulk have more goals than Rielly on the PP this season, you know you're not having a banner season. He's hesitant to make passes, has low offensive IQ, doesn't get shots through, doesn't shoot for a tip or rebound, and has only 12 assists on the #3 PP in the league. Now that we have Gustavsson, might want to give him a run with it.We've tried other players on the PP, Rielly is not the Problem!
PP was garbage when he was hurt this season.
Tried Sandin, to finish off the 2021 season and into the playoffs, the PP with Sandin on the A unit went an absolutely mind boggling 1 goal for and 2 goals against over ~30 opportunities.
Tried Barrie for much of his season, despite multiple seasons of PP success under his belt - an absolute disaster with Barrie. Who then went on to QB the best PP in hockey immediately after leaving the Leafs.
Our PP has issues, but Rielly isn't the problem. If anything he's a big part of what's holding things together.
Acquiring O’Reilly, Acciari, McCabe and Lafferty made a lot of sense. Moving one of Engvall or Kerfoot also made sense to clear up cap space. The rest of the moves were really unnecessary. Gio looks gassed out there yet he’s still a better option than Gustafsson.Yep he looks total 180 than how he did before
I do not understand how he isnt planted as no.2 RD through all of this
But i really havent understood a lot of this since acquiring oreilly to be honest.
I essentially meant the lineup choices.. lines pairing and 11 7Acquiring O’Reilly, Acciari, McCabe and Lafferty made a lot of sense. And trading away his best bud on the blue line in Sandin. He’s really been put in a shitty position here. Went from looking like our best D to someone who has no clue what’s going on anymore, and I can’t really blame him.The team has straight up destroyed Liljegrens confidence after trading for 3 new defensemen, sitting him for multiple games and basically telling him that any mistakes will get him out of the lineup. Timmins might have made Sandin a little expendable but it’s also a little disappointing even while we’re going with 11 forwards and 7 defenceman, Timmins keeps sitting out when he played really well for us when in the lineup.
I know it’s only been a few games but Timmins to me has looked a lot better than Gustafsson on both ends of the ice and has actually contributed offensively.
If Sandin wanted out, that’s obviously a different story. Like you said, ideally we would have acquired a forward who can slot into that second or third line but at least we acquired a 1st in a pretty deep draft. If Sandin asked for a trade, which I’m guessing he did, it makes a lot of sense. I’d have preferred they got a going forward for him but whatever
Also getting a guy like Schenn for just a 3rd is very useful.
Schenn should play over hollIf Sandin wanted out, that’s obviously a different story. Like you said, ideally we would have acquired a forward who can slot into that second or third line but at least we acquired a 1st in a pretty deep draft.
I’m not against the Schenn trade, but I’ll have to see more of him in order to judge the move. He’s looked solid in his very limited ice time so far and I do love the physicality he brings. Is his overall game really an upgrade over Holl or Liljegren though? We’ll have to wait and see…
I’m not against that, it’s just hard to believe Keefe will take Holl out of the lineup given that he does play a pretty important role on the PK for us.Schenn should play over holl
Keefe is and will continue to make this more complicated than it has to beI’m not against that, it’s just hard to believe Keefe will take Holl out of the lineup given that he does play a pretty important role on the PK for us.
Realistically Keefe will take Liljegren out which I think is a mistake.
You know as well as I do, Lilly might play game 1, score, and never see the ice again for the rest of the season.Keefe is and will continue to make this more complicated than it has to be
Outaide of rotating gio for holl down the stretch for rest there isnt much to f*** with in my opinion

Mccabe liljegren

Who is taking a 7 million dollar contract that hes apparently earned every penny?Rielly blows.
Please move him in the off-season.
I was advocating to acquire McCabe for a while here. If Keefe wants to experiment this year with different combinations, I would try Rielly - McCabe. Otherwise stick to McCabe - Brodie. Next season play around with different combinations such as McCabe - Liljegren which I think would work really well. But we’ll need McCabe and Brodie to go up against Tampas top line.Keefe is and will continue to make this more complicated than it has to be
