He has Norris votes and is better than pretty much all our D.
#3 best PP in the league at this time, not 2nd as you say. I still don't know what your point is. My point is that we're that good despite having Rielly on there. He doesn't contribute to the success of that powerplay any more than someone like a Liljegren or Gustavsson would. Let's stop living in the past, Rielly is having a below-average season offensively while posting personal highs in giveaways and playing terrible defence. The only positive that has come from going 11/7 is that his minutes have been reduced from an average of 22 to 18.Exactly and reacting like leafs pp is totally trash when hes 2nd best
Toronto having 2nd best pp of NHL, you know? So atop acting lile they was bottom 10 in NHL...
If liljegren cant handle pressure of competition and earn his spot, sorry hes not ready to play under pressure in playoff

Thinking about this loss... I see it this way.
People are often saying, ah Tampa lost to Anaheim or Phoenix too...
There is a difference between something you do, and something you are. Lose to a bottom feeder once, it is something that happened, something you did. Lose to bottom feeders more often than not, it is something you are.
This core is wrought with weakness lacking any sort of killer instinct. Period.
Cheering for them to find a way to win come playoff time, but honestly not really expecting it.
Is it really? So when he went down with injury and our PP percentage was 17.1 in his absence which would rank 26th in the NHL were we better off without?. Was so bad they had to use 5 forwards which also didn't really work out that well in a small sample size. So to say he doesn't contribute to the success of that PP is just crazy and blind hate from you.#3 best PP in the league at this time, not 2nd as you say. I still don't know what your point is. Tampa won a cup playing 7D for a good chunk of their run. They rolled with Schenn/Bogo as 6A and 6BDubas & Keefe can't simply put out a solid, consistent lineup and get players comfortable...they need to overhandle everything.
If you need to dress 7D to hide inefficiencies from guys like Holl or Lilly then perhaps you don't have the right horses.
Leafs losing to these ahl teams
Great. As long as they make it count when it matters !!3rd best record vs playoff teams by point percentage and narrowly behind second.
I don’t like the way this team plays down to these teams either, but if we’re losing a bunch against bad teams, that means we’re also winning a lot against good teams.
Does that have any bearing on my post?Leafs losing to these ahl teams
I don’t hate Rielly, I just think he’s having a terrible season both offensively and defensively. The statistics and the eye test bear that out. I believe it’s foolhardy to blindly support a player who is clearly struggling in many fan’s opinion. He needs to get in shape and stop with low hockey IQ plays. He’s got talent, he’s not using it this season. And do you really think he’s that important to the PP that he can effect an improvement from 26th to 3rd? Have you actually watched the power plays? Is it really? So when he went down with injury and our PP percentage was 17.1 in his absence which would rank 26th in the NHL were we better off without?. I have watched the PPs and many said our PP would be better with Sandin because he could get shots through and QB the PP just as well, yet when he was the PP QB his shots got blocked just like Riellys and our PP didn't get better. Saying his defensive game this season hasn't been his best is fair to say but people saying he doesn't help our offence or our PP and that someone could do better is just wrong and the numbers and eye test prove that as well.I don’t hate Rielly, I just think he’s having a terrible season both offensively and defensively. The fact he dont get as much point doesn't mean he dont get the job done... toronto having succes when they move the puck a lot and yes rielly help to this part of his game. But at the end you want to change something working pretty well to something who probably just being worst...
Yes he dont having a huge season but he still leafs best D and if leafs want to win in playoff, they will need rielly at his best, so he need to find his game back until the end of season...

If you are talking about Rielly, he is having a horrid year, you could put the last name Berg or Marancin on his the back and from the quality of play you wouldn't know it's Morgan. He's currently a liability , he's always been a bit of a sloppy player defensivly. Offence comes from confidence, Morgan does not look like a confident player, nor should he feel confident about his game. He needs to somehow remember what it is to be a 20 goal, 72 point, +24 defencman.
He has the pattern of one up year one down year, this is the down year it seems.

Thats an overreaction
The big problem this season with Rielly was lost of Muzzin... the same way hedman having his worst season last 7 1st season without mcdonaugh.
Without Muzzin, rielly and brodie had to play against toughest matchup because leaf had nobody for it and i think thats where rielly lost his confidence and his game and how huge is mccabe add for everyone in this line up.
Now he need to find his game and confidence back before playoff start
What is an overreaction? He's is by every measurement having a bad year, eye test, advance metrics, standard metrics all poor.
The statement that Rielly gets the toughest match ups is simply , measurably not true. Holl has the toughest minutes.
His OZ starts are the softest on the team at 63.8%, think about that , 2/3rds of the time he is starting in the Offensive zone AND he is a negative player.
You comparing a player who playing toughest matchup vs guy who was playing when player was injured... yes its an overreaction
Brodie is the player who had the toughest matchup amount all leafs D this season and rielly played with brodie majority of this season...
Ps rielly started 55.5% in offensive zone at even strenght and 53.2 % at 5v5
It's odd Hockey-reference is reporting two different oZS stats
62.6% oZS%. Holl has the toughest minutes
View attachment 669533
if you remove the Muz and Benn for obvious reasons
View attachment 669537
Anyway you look at it Rielly has had pretty easy minutes.
