No. Goalies have no history of carrying anywhere near that much value.

But I personally would trade Savoie away a lot more easily than I think most of the board would.

The people willing to pay through the teeth for this oft-injured goalie with a long sample of subpar performance are the same ones that stood on soap boxes during the tenures of the previous GMs, complaining about losing trades and mismanagement of assets and cap space.

The only way you trade for John Gibson is if Anaheim bends over backwards to facilitate that trade considering he's listed only two teams he's willing to accept a trade to at this point in a very weak goalie market.

Under no circumstances should we be offering up our primary trade capital.

I don't think you have to do that, they will take a 2026 1st because really what are they going to do? Say no to a 1st round pick and say no to saving several millions of dollars each year? In their situation? That doesn't make any sense.

A 2026 1st + maybe some salary going out the door for Gibson with some retention + maybe Dumoulin as a depth D add makes sense for both teams.

The Oilers don't have a starting goalie and there is no one on the horizon who could fill that role unless you want to pay even more for Jusse Saros who will be making $7+ million for many years (don't count on Nashville to retain because that would put them on the hook for like 7-8 years worth of retention ... not happening).

Based on Gibsons contract and previous couple years of work, he shouldn’t be that expensive. Goaltenders traditionally haven’t been that expensive either.

It’s probably a complicated deal because he needs retention to be worth anything. And with a few years left, Anaheim wants something to retain that long. But thats their problem not ours.

If Anaheim wants a lot, move on and figure out something else.

Gibson is day to day. It may even be good for us as it may spook Anaheim into wanting to deal him more and get something now, maybe even lower their ask a little more.

There's nothing like a little injury scare to jolt a team off their ass and realize they can miss out on a decent return.

We're gonna have to take a risk at some point here because Skinner is failing miserably at being a starter, that is not a viable option.

Pretty simple question - given the struggles of Stu Skinner, if you were GM, would you trade Matt Savoie to Anaheim for John Gibson, if a solution was available where cap space worked to do so?

I voted no because Gibson is too injury prone. Binnington - yes. But cap space probably dictates we’re stuck with Stu.

I’m not getting rid of Savoie just yet but there are other options. Henrique, RV, and Nuge, none of these guys have pissed a drop all year.

Rinse and repeat. Unless the coaching and systems are in place why waste another asset. That said, I would look elsewhere.

Henrique and RNH are valuable role players who impact multiple areas of the game. I think Henrique still has another gear, but as us, he's a guy who doesn't give up a lot 5v5. That's valuable considering he plays almost entirely away from scoring lines.

RV is the guy I could see us moving on from at the deadline simply because we haven't seen the fireworks from him that were expected.

lol Henrique has been a massive disappointment this year and is 35 years old. The Oilers galaxy brained themselves on this signing, this guy was never worth a 1st round pick to begin with.

RV could be replaced for 750k by Yamamoto this season and Yamamoto might have better numbers, certainly not much worse. That's another disaster signing.

RNH is dog shit at even strength.

Lot of underperforming turds on this roster that need to look themselves in the mirror.

Henrique is +6 5v5 and has the lowest GA/60 of any player on the team by a decent margin. He's not sexy and he's definitely a bit pricey for the role but he's done his job IMO.

RNH supporters are just blind homers at this point.

A "bit pricey" is a pretty large understatement. Dude is on pace for 10 goals.

I get the appeal but give his age (now 35) this was a dumb signing. A lot of forwards fall off a cliff at this age, so this regression isn't a massive surprise.

I honestly was never that thrilled we threw away a 1st round pick for this player to begin with, he's worth really a 2nd at best.

The Oilers get nowhere near the Finals last season without that JHB line or the PK. I'm not shocked to see you gloss over it though.

The Oilers go nowhere if their bottom six gets caved.
