You know you don't have to defend every embarrassing thing your franchise does right? You can admit it looks bad and it doesn't make you less of a fan.

Trying to rationalize it and justify it makes you look silly and comes off as poor coping

The Arizona Coyotes fanbase represents a good example as to where the line between fandom and delusion gets blurred. I get wanting to believe in and protect your team but f*** me at this point just admit that your franchise sucks. You don't have to flag yourself for it but between that/every bullshit thing around them, the blatant tanking and the constant persecution complex, it's hard to find much to like there.

Keep in mind I'm very much someone who's anti-relocation, feel for any fan that has lost their team but this situation is incredible. There's always been someone that turned up willing to keep them around though.

This was the perfect opportunity to test some markets.

They should have split their home games at few locations.

Pick 1 Canadian location:
• Hamilton
• Quebec City
• Saskatoon

Pick 2 US locations:
• Atlanta
• Hartford
• Houston
• Milwaukee
• Kansas City
• Portland

I do realize that some franchises like Toronto, Montreal, Seattle might not like this idea, especially the latter as they are just building their fan base.

I’m sure the NHLPA wouldn’t like it either… too difficult on the Coyotes players and their families.

Don’t know what the solution is, but this is embarrassing for a professional sports franchise.

imagine anything like this in the NFL or MLB
This was the visting locker room for Blue Jays games in Buffalo in 2020 and 2021 (~60 games) I believe it was in a temporary structure in the stadium parking lot.

Look on the bright side "Mullett Arena" is a pretty great name for a place to play hockey

Wasn’t that, like, an emergency solution to keep baseball going amidst government clusterf***ing in response to a global pandemic?

Whereas this.. is just standard business for an nhl franchise, apparently.

Yes, the Jays situation was them playing temporarily in a different city due to a global pandemic and the impossibility of playing in their actual home stadium.

It was for about 60 games. This is for four games until the Annex with the NHL-calibre dressing rooms is finished.

I think this is absolutely hilarious. Real '70s throwback energy. Who the hell cares that visiting multi-multi-millionaires won't get their essential oil massages, champagne-scented toilet paper and the endless multitude of spoiled-athlete amenities?

I'm afraid to ask, but...what exactly is the shower situation?
That is the biggest problem I see here.

Changing into your equipment and out of your equipment while standing on a cement floor isn't professional at all, but at least it is doable. The NHL players will be able to tolerate it for 1 game.

But does the road team not have access to any showers, toilets, or running water?

How much of a cut do teams generally get from concessions? I imagine they'll take a huge hit there and with board ads only visible to 5k.

Concession rights are typically in the mid 7 figures per year for average to below average revenue teams. Something like $4m-$8m/year.

From what I’ve read, they have access to the full facilities of that arena and its locker rooms.

Also, this Is the very early stages of the set-up. It might make more sense to judge the final product.

Come on TL you're better than that. I don't think you honestly believe that they were actually for sale.

As for the situation.....In the grand scheme of things, it's 4 games and not that big of a deal.

But, this is just part and parcel of the whole disaster that is this organization. As has been pointed out, other somewhat similar in a vacuum type situations were known to be 100% temporary as the future location of the team was known. Here however, it's not. It's not even cloudy or fuzzy. We're still in the it's pitch black phase.

Along with that, it's impossible to look at this in isolation when it's just another negative look on top of the dozens or hundreds others that are tied to the situation over the past 15 - 20 years (or more) and therefore the benefit of the doubt can't be given.

They (QC) had an expansion opportunity. Even after getting the public to build him an arena, PKP couldn't come up with the fee for it. There's no questioning QC could support a franchise. But you need someone who's willing to spend the money on it. PKP chickened out and left QC fans hanging.

But I get it.... the Coyotes have been a mess that goes all the way back to when the owner who put the franchise on Glendale split their partnership and the Coyotes off of Westgate. What Alex Meruelo is attempting to do is fix that mess. Still remains to be seen if he can pull it off. But he's already invested $40-50 million just to get it into a position where he can do something about it.

The NHL, and NHLPA have been aware of this situation for months. The four teams who will use these temporary digs have also been kept informed since the schedule was released and the Coyotes have been open to any questions from them.

Of course I don't have to.... the fact this has been living in everyone's head is entertaining enough.
