Are the Hunts (KC Chiefs owners) still interested in bringing a hockey team to KC MO?

I recall they were looking into it maybe a half decade back.

The NHL should be calling them. At least they have a beautiful arena in the Sprint Center, and no competition except for the Chiefs on Sundays. Certainly beats this situation.

Oh we're used to it. Seeing the same people regurgitate the same old tired takes going since 2009 or so.

The team's in a total rebuild now, so most everyone is aware there will be pain over the next 2-3 seasons.

The real question now is if they can get their arena proposal approved. Which currently looks to be the end of November.
Are they really 'old tired takes', though? People aren't bringing up old news.

Word has it the visiting teams don't have to wear suits to the games when visiting the ASU facility, team issued Sweat Shirts, Sweat Pants with team Slides will be the dress code.

A number of now strong franchises had low points, especially near the beginning when they weren’t originally hockey markets. But even the Blackhawks had a hard time getting fan engagement at one point.
Comparing the Blackhawks situation before Bill Wirtz died and how the Coyotes been run is the height of dishonest. Gary Bettman basically owned the team for years, despite him now saying that the only way an NHL team is getting moved is if there's not an owner in the current market who wants to own a team. That was definitely not what it sounded like when he/''the league'' owned the team.

In the future, OP's could more economically use the single word "Coyotes" as the subject line for such posts. That will trigger the usual hundreds of redundant posts about how Phoenix is a bad market (and somehow Vegas is a good one), and relocating the team.

After more than a decade of this, I have to admit that it's sort of fun to watch the Coyotes troll the league by its mere existence.

I’m making a point about fans showing up to entertaining. Not a business operations point

Some people conflate fans not showing up with other problems the team has internally. There’s nothing inherently different about the people of Arizona from say North Carolina that makes it impossible to build a loyal fan base. The team hasn’t put a product on ice people actually want to watch. The Canes have and they’ve built a growing fan base with a die hard core

If an O6 market can lose fans to a boring product, you’re not going to convince non-traditional markets potential fans to go out of their way

The team stays in Arizona because the dual potential for a fan base and converting kids to hockey fans, and eventually hockey players, is there same as it was in a number of current NHL cities who weren’t/aren’t traditional markets. Sustained exciting product, and ideally a marketable star is what draws new people.

I feel confident if the Panthers can finally sustain this entertaining product they’ve build, they’ll continue their growth in the community. They’ve already made inroads with the current edition of the team the last few years.

I’ve noticed the Arizona Twitter people seem to be shifting to the Canes kind of approach which IMO is a good idea. Non traditional markets will be more receptive off the bat to loose, more fun, more occasionally troll-y approach to marketing instead of being super self serious all the time

If Logan Cooleys game translates well to the NHL and he can bring some flash and personal appeal, that will be a good start too.

this is one of the most unnacceptable things ive seen as far as a pro franchise thing goes

totally embarrassing
I’ve seen defenders point out that the chargers played in the Galaxy stadium of 27k but at least when the chargers arrived they had an agreement in place to play in Sofi when it was completed and the plans for Sofi were approved.

Not the case for the coyotes.
This is really bad. They need to get the new arena approved. Like now

Will the coyotes get a final decision on their proposed Tempe Arena by the end of the nhl year by June 30, 2023?
They can’t seriously go into next season without an agreement in place on a new arena can they? Has to be either light at the end of this AZ tunnel or a move.

I wouldn't be surprised if McDavid jersey sales > Arizona's gate revenue this year lol. Those 12 extra fans better be big spenders to break even.

They said the average ticket is $170, and they've seen something like a 50% increase in season ticket sales head into this season. They're *hoping* to sell out every game.

It could be a great thing for hardcore fans and the closer seating can also be a draw for fans of other teams wanting to get an up-close view.

5000 seats x 41 games...you're probably talking $20-30 million over the season depending upon costs and if they do end up selling out.

Can't find actual numbers on jersey sales, though I am surprised Fleury was the #3 best-selling jersey of the 2021 calendar year (Ovi was #1).

How much of a cut do teams generally get from concessions? I imagine they'll take a huge hit there and with board ads only visible to 5k.
