I’ve seen defenders point out that the chargers played in the Galaxy stadium of 27k but at least when the chargers arrived they had an agreement in place to play in Sofi when it was completed and the plans for Sofi were approved.

Not the case for the coyotes.

Will the coyotes get a final decision on their proposed Tempe Arena by the end of the nhl year by June 30, 2023?
They can’t seriously go into next season without an agreement in place on a new arena can they? Has to be either light at the end of this AZ tunnel or a move.
They need to have it by then at minimum. Like this is a shit situation but it's okay if it's only temporary and you got a plan. It's gonna take a few years to get the place built and you just tough it out if you KNOW when it's gonna end. If there's no solution by July 1st they need to make preparations to move the team to Houston if there's a buyer

Comparing the Blackhawks situation before Bill Wirtz died and how the Coyotes been run is the height of dishonest. Gary Bettman basically owned the team for years, despite him now saying that the only way an NHL team is getting moved is if there's not an owner in the current market who wants to own a team. That was definitely not what it sounded like when he/''the league'' owned the team.

In the four years the NHL owned and ran the franchise they could have easily moved the franchise to another market.

Except something strange happened…

Nobody stepped up to pay what the league would have demanded to buy them for another market.

Completely agreed. One thing to suffer through this if there is a payoff in AZ. But you’d like to know that before you suffer it like the chargers did when to went to the galaxy stadium after leaving SD.

Come on TL you're better than that. I don't think you honestly believe that they were actually for sale.

As for the situation.....In the grand scheme of things, it's 4 games and not that big of a deal.

But, this is just part and parcel of the whole disaster that is this organization. As has been pointed out, other somewhat similar in a vacuum type situations were known to be 100% temporary as the future location of the team was known. Here however, it's not. It's not even cloudy or fuzzy. We're still in the it's pitch black phase.

Along with that, it's impossible to look at this in isolation when it's just another negative look on top of the dozens or hundreds others that are tied to the situation over the past 15 - 20 years (or more) and therefore the benefit of the doubt can't be given.

They said the average ticket is $170, and they've seen something like a 50% increase in season ticket sales head into this season. They're *hoping* to sell out every game.

It could be a great thing for hardcore fans and the closer seating can also be a draw for fans of other teams wanting to get an up-close view.

5000 seats x 41 games...you're probably talking $20-30 million over the season depending upon costs and if they do end up selling out.

Can't find actual numbers on jersey sales, though I am surprised Fleury was the #3 best-selling jersey of the 2021 calendar year (Ovi was #1).

They averaged 20 mil a year in a 17000 person stadium before they sold everyone off. They made 2 mil last year. The only jersey stat I could find was that Forsberg's jersey sold a half mil worth in 2005.

In the future, OP's could more economically use the single word "Coyotes" as the subject line for such posts. That will trigger the usual hundreds of redundant posts about how Phoenix is a bad market (and somehow Vegas is a good one), and relocating the team.

After more than a decade of this, I have to admit that it's sort of fun to watch the Coyotes troll the league by its mere existence.

Oh yea, GREAT trolling…that’s what the coyotes are doing

I'm sure someone has already said it, but why film this? If you have to preempt it (or postempt it, in this case) and make some snarky comment about the reaction of "fans north of the border", maybe don't film and talk about it? Why show something that you know is going to embarrass your franchise?

And it absolutely is embarrasing. Even if it's just four games, it's embarrassing. You can't even provide an actual locker room? My elementary school had better amenities than that.

Who needs to defend??

I'm enjoying and laughing my ass off at all the comments here.

The four teams that will be using the community rink facility will have it all to themselves. It does have four separate locker rooms (and showers! ;) ). I can't say if they are using any of them because I honestly don't know. What the clip in the OP shows is them just beginning to set up some of the other required areas over the actual community rink ice surface.

In the end they will actually have more room to operate than they would at most other arenas.

NCAA rules prohibit the use of the Sun Devils home locker area (which is real ice from what I've seen). Coyotes are going to use the visiting team locker area, which I've heard is quite spartan in comparison.

Oh Lord..... Hot take from the 90's has entered the chat.

Frankly speaking I'm hoping we end up with the 10th worst record, then win the Bedard draft lottery. Beats waiting two more years before Auston Matthews comes home.
You know you don't have to defend every embarrassing thing your franchise does right? You can admit it looks bad and it doesn't make you less of a fan.

Trying to rationalize it and justify it makes you look silly and comes off as poor coping

It is pretty embarrassing for the league and hockey in general. It is kind of mind-boggling that this was allowed to stand. I feel like any solution was better than this one. Hell, even if they borrowed an arena or two from around the league they should be able to draw more than the 5k they have at ASU. I feel for Arizona fans as I have been anti-relocation but either you get them in a real arena this season, or you gotta look to move the team elsewhere. Quebec, Kansas City, Houston, etc. gotta be better than this.
