50 shots on goal total. Prosvetov had 22 saves on 26 shots (.846 SV%) and was replaced with Matt Villalta who allowed 3 goals on 24 shots (.875%).

Looks like he was outplayed by Villalta a bit, but neither were able to make up for the rest of the team's mistakes.

Come on now KYT, that's a poor use of the numbers and I'm fairly certain you know that.

It's a bit unfair to write off Prosvetov based on a preseason game with the C squad.

He's got consistency issues but he's still worth the development time IMO.

As a 23 year old, his first 3 NHL games he went 3-0-0 with a 1.67 and a .952.

His next 4 games were awful, when he went 1-3-0 with a .822.

He's only 24. If he can find more consistency with those early numbers, he could very well establish an NHL career for himself. Ingram and Vejmelka hadn't even played an NHL game yet at Prosvetov's age.

Not sure what you mean, actually. Care to elaborate?

All l was really doing was pointing out that Prosvetov didn't play the entire game and face all 50 shots, along with the actual statistics for each goaltender that played, and pointed out that Villalta had a bit better SV%. Nothing non-factual or opinion based in there at all. I even pointed out that neither of them were up to task.

Edit: Earlier I said that I had written off Prosvetov at the end of last season, but this post wasn't meant to be an argument in support of that, just sharing the details we didn't have yet.

well, here’s to hope.

Fair enough, I read again and see that you did point out that neither tender could overcome the teams mistakes. Although having not seen the game, I can’t actually attest to same.
I just felt like the sample size was too small, with too many variables, not the least of which is in pulling the netminder the rest of the team often pull their collective heads out.

I think you exhaust all efforts for a goalie with Provestov’s athleticism.

All good.

I haven't come across this info., but it could be that they pulled Prosvetov or it could be that it was a planned goalie change that was made pregame, to see both players. Don't know what point in the game that they swapped even.

Like you said, lots of variables.

I just don't expect much from him anymore, can't see it, would love to be wrong. Seems like he's been mostly moving in the wrong direction statistically since the 2020-21 season, even his AHL stats are unimpressive IMO so this game wasn't the deciding factor for me. It's really just another "not surprised at all" thing for me.

If I recall correctly, his SV% and GAA have been in the bottom half (or worse) of all AHL goaltenders for his entire 4 season AHL career. Very disappointing, I think. That doesn't instill confidence that he'll ever have success at an even higher level.

I do agree that it isn't fair to judge him too much for this game specifically with things being the way they were. The odds were stacked against these kids in this one.

I wish we'd just let O'Brien go and keep Jenik in that spot. he's more of a pest than O'Brien and actually has some offensive acumen, he could grow into the role.

I'm just not an O'Brien fan, he must be a helluva guy in the room, because I can't figure out what he brings on the ice.

He gets them free fertilizer.

He's leading the team in +/- right now. (and while playing against the other top lines.)

Eh, he's cheap and sets a tone on the ice, I'm fine with him as a 13th forward. Eventually he'll be gone and some other version of him will be signed.

I'm usually more concerned with the top 9 than the last 4-5 guys on the roster. Those guys just need to be competent defensively and bring energy/physical play, LOB does that.
