Wasn’t Toronto one of the teams showing interest in Garland? Not sure if they can fit his extension but I like some of their pieces. Robertson+ would be interesting.

I would bet the Garland thing is a 'blow me away and I'll pull the trigger right now' situation at the moment. BA has so many other important balls up in the air. The Kessel and OEL trades will dictate a lot of what they do for the entire summer.

I would be very shocked if they meaningfully tore things down before giving most of the players 45 games under a new coach.

While I agree, Garland was the heart and soul of the coyotes. Borderline face of the franchise. You don’t treat those kinds of players like this, because you end up getting yourself in an Eichel situation. It looks bad for the team and the fan base, and this fan base can’t afford too many more blows like this.
I just chalk this report as normal negotiation tactics.

I’m surprised more aren’t open to moving Garland. Now, I want to sign him preferably, but the reality is he’s 25 and will be on the downhill in as soon as 3 years, especially with the playing style and size.

My concern with Garland is his durability. That being said he is a heart and soul player and i love his attitude.

I’m reallly hoping they have some kind of plan here and maybe the agent is playing hardball because it would suck to lose G for nothing. I hope he’s re-signed.
Agent wants Keller $. AZ doesn’t want to pay that citing covid and actions of the previous GM. Market has changed. This is just all posturing.

The team is in such a weird spot of needing a rebuild but already having quite a few under 23 core pieces around. We just need to add some more to inject some new youthful blood into that core.

Chayka brought us outside into the rain with Kessel, Hall, and trading away and losing picks/prospects, but it was pouring a bit too hard. BA needs to bring us back inside to get our coat. Once that’s done we could have a future again

Imagine having the following assets still:
POJ
Bahl
Mercer (who NJ drafted with our pick)
Yan Kuznetsov (player drafted immediately after our forfeited 2020 2nd)
11th pick in the 2021 draft

You know what I'd do, I'd move some of these assets or one's like Jenik/Maccelli/Capo for Eichel or Reinhart. Make a move for someone like Dumba and add to the youngish core we have. Unfortunately 2-3 years worth of prospects and picks are now gone, and because of that it probably is smart to begin to move one from players 25 and older. Anyone drafted this year will be cracking the roster by the time Dvo/Chychrun/Keller are 26+. It sucks, but here we are.

That's also not to say that Dvo/Chychrun/Keller can't be great players from the ages of 26-30+ but that would mean someone like Garland would be closer to 30 by the time the next group of kids start cracking the team.

I would bet the Garland thing is a 'blow me away and I'll pull the trigger right now' situation at the moment. BA has so many other important balls up in the air. The Kessel and OEL trades will dictate a lot of what they do for the entire summer.

100%. I just wouldn't be surprised if a team manages to meet BA's expectations. The good thing is we know he was patient enough not to take the OEL and Kuemper offers last summer. Hope he sticks to his guns on guys like Garland, rather than not wanting to make the same mistake twice because the situations are completely different.

I’m surprised more aren’t open to moving Garland. Now, I want to sign him preferably, but the reality is he’s 25 and will be on the downhill in as soon as 3 years, especially with the playing style and size.

If Keller has an ounce of Garland's drive and heart I think everyone would be more welcome to the idea of moving Garland. Problem is he is one of two players that look like they care about playing on a hockey team in AZ. The rest look like they are thinking about what to do on their days off for most of the game. I would like to see if Grouxl can change that.

And Keller has only played for Tocchet, save for those three end-of-season games in Tippett's final year.

Alright, so everyone is saying we may as well move Garland because he’s too old, right? So should we move Dvorak and Schmaltz too?
Na I'd rather keep him. OEL, Kuemper, Kessel. Everyone else is safe until '22 TDL. I was more having fun in the Garland thread in the main board. I would still like to add Benson and Lavoie though.

I think this is all blown out of proportion, really. Garland’s camp is posturing, BA is deep in the trenches trying to put out multiple fires at once, and most everyone on this forum is in favor of keeping him at a fair price, but going through scenarios of what it may look like if we lose him because that’s the natural reaction to news like this (if you want to call it news.)

It’s all pure speculation, the silly season. At the end of the day I think Garland gets signed. By the way, you know you’re my boy but I love that you brought up Schmaltz. You trade him all the time in proposals

Schmaltz, yes.

Dvorak I'd keep. I don't have the same durability concerns as Garland. Plus he's a center.

And a rather reasonable contract. Garland's Agent is right to point at Keller and Schmaltz and say "there's my comparables" thanks.

What would Toronto give up for Garland? Can they make the dollars work?

Chris Johnston said Hyman will command 6x6 on open market so imagine he is headed out of town.

I don't see how it would work. Toronto can't really trade entry level guys as they need the low Cap hit. And none of the other guys are worth getting excited over.
