What the tape will show you is OEL has been carrying a 2nd pairing on his own. There's not many Coyote defensemen who could partner a scrub and do that. Numminen could. Michalek. Derek Morris. Chychrun and Yandle certainly could not.

It's not exactly a revelation the Coyotes will take back a contract in a trade - I don't think that was ever in dispute, that's just how trades work now.

Cap space is valuable. However I think both you and RT are guilty of overrating it's value with a very big assumption the Coyotes can then use it to get elite players at a reasonable cost to join a country club. That's never been a success from Tony Amonte to Taylor Hall.

I dont think RemoAz is saying that OEL would be traded for *only* valuable stuff. What he's saying is that OEL isnt just a salary dump.

The evidence contradicts you. Clearly if Bill Armstrong thought that then OEL would already be at Vancouver or Boston.
Good post.:thumbu:

Listening to the latest Nattie Hattie Podcast I heard Steve Peters say "I dont think OEL, Kuemper and Kessel combined return a 1st round pick". After having listened to him on the last few podcasts I am shocked by some of his takes. This one, as well as, "I wouldnt trade Keller for Eichel straight up".... I am actually still very high on Keller and I would do that so fast its insane.

I know the guy has had a long career in the NHL....but damn I disagree a lot with him.

Seravalli's Trade Targets: 20 names in play in the 'Summer of Jack' - Daily Faceoff

Frank Seravalli's Top 20 trade targets has Garland listed as #4. Interesting notes from Seravalli:

"Scoop: The Coyotes have not treated Garland like the player who was the heartbeat of their team. Garland’s camp, led by agent Peter Cooney, submitted two contract proposals (as requested by the club) on May 20 and there has been zero communication or dialogue since. “We’re just looking for Conor to be paid respectfully like the core player he was for the Coyotes,” Cooney told Daily Faceoff on Tuesday. It appears that will be elsewhere, which is no real shock given that Arizona nearly moved Garland in the days prior to April’s trade deadline."

I really didnt think Garland would be moved, but rumors like this make me think it is much more possible than I thought.

OEL comes in at #10...

"Scoop: The word around Arizona is everyone is available aside from Jakob Chychrun. That includes the captain. Last offseason, Ekman-Larsson only gave Arizona two options: Boston and Vancouver. There is more flexibility there this time around. But that is a very difficult contract to move in a flat cap world and there are plenty of questions about Ekman-Larsson’s recent and noticeable drop-off in play. The Coyotes are believed to be looking for a Ryan O’Reilly (to St. Louis)-type deal: pick, prospect, roster player and are willing to maybe take a smaller, less desirable contract in return."

Oh god we’re pissing Garland off oh god no

I will be sad when OEL is traded. I think Garland will be the first trade in my fandom (relatively short compared to some of you, 11 years) that’s truly devastates me.

I guess we will find out on Garland, but that is his agent trying to use the media for leverage. Every player should be available for the right price.

Holy crap! I can't believe I missed this!

The Isles have basically no cap space and a bunch of players to resign. Ladd + Pelech + Bellows for '21 2nd + '22 2nd + ?? We have the cap space to bury Ladd and adding Bellows and Pelech would be fantastic. NYI still need to resign 7 RFA's and probably need to buy a UFA or 2. We scratch their back and give them ammo for Seattle to take the player of their choosing for a pick. Pelech is valuable as hell but might be worth it? I'd take another dump if they gave us Mayfield as well.

Chychun - RD
Pelech - Soderstrom
LD - Lyubushkin

While I agree, Garland was the heart and soul of the coyotes. Borderline face of the franchise. You don’t treat those kinds of players like this, because you end up getting yourself in an Eichel situation. It looks bad for the team and the fan base, and this fan base can’t afford too many more blows like this.

Well, that's unsettling. Gives a scorched earth vibe. I was really hoping we would be shoring up our blue line with big game players and adding a top 6 winger to the mix. Quotes like this make me feel like we are going to trade everyone not named Chychrun and tank which is a mistake.

What do you mean "treat those kind of players like this"? What have the Coyotes done wrong? As far as I'm concerned, the Coyotes do this negotiation on there time, not the agents.

Have no worries. BA is going to hire a cheap, inexpensive coach to take us to the promise land, and sign a few more Russians and ex NHL players to fill out our roster.:sarcasm:

I’m curious to see how BA changes my outlook over the course of the offseason cuz right now I feel like we’re looking at a season worse than 2014-15 next year.

BA has time to calm our nerves, so let's give him a few more months before we throw pitchforks. I personally don't like what he is doing regarding the coaching, but as far as players go, we can't forget me missed the playoffs. But what really upsets me is if BA thinks this lowly of the roster, why didn't he do something at TTD, instead of giving the players a vote of confidence? Mind you, this is social media at it's best throwing out all kinds of BS.

I’m reallly hoping they have some kind of plan here and maybe the agent is playing hardball because it would suck to lose G for nothing. I hope he’s re-signed.
How do we lose Garland for nothing?

I'm fine with a younger, up and coming coach. Great coaches have to come from somewhere and I totally understand the optics of the coach making more than the GM looking bad. There are some great young coaches out there with resumes far superior to RT's when we hired him. I'm not ok with burning the roster down and filling it in with scrubs again. I have never seen a short, scorched earth rebuild. I have seen a retool with a down year or 2 while you wait on some youth to get there. If that's the plan I'm less appalled and will continue to support BA. I'm very heavily against a full on rebuild though. OEL, Kessel and Kuemper are our trade chips, get what you can for them. Everyone else needs to be a hockey deal that changes our identity if we move them. We need to see what we have in Jenik and Hayton too. Our center depth could be better than we all think. Load up on some hard hitting wingers that drive the net and fight in the corners. Get a big, mean blue line to complement and protect Chychrun and Soderstrom. Bring in a guy we want to tandem with Hill. That's my offseason plan if I'm GM of the Coyotes.

To any Athletic subscribers: help

There hasn’t been a conversation in a while between the Coyotes and OEL’s camp. But the sense is this, based off their last conversation: GM Bill Armstrong was free to go out and see if there were any trade fits this offseason and then bring something back to the player and his camp to see if it’s a team they would waive for.

A slightly different approach in that Epp isn’t limiting Armstrong to just two teams. However, there’s the same bottom line. OEL has to sign off with his full no-move.

The Bruins would remain a team of interest for Ekman-Larsson, no doubt. And it just so happens Boston is looking for a top-four, left-handed defenceman

But it’s the part where OEL still has six years on his contract at an $8.25-million AAV that may or may not still be an issue for the Bruins.

Given how many high-end D could be available this offseason, and given what’s left on OEL’s contact even though he’s a special player, it may prove difficult to make a move him and get a decent return in this flat cap environment.

Making Garland feel like this is absolutely unforgivable. This is a HUGE strike against Bill Armstrong for me. This is absolute Chayka-shit, right here. Pathetic.
Give me a break. With as many irons BA has in the fire, he is trying to build a better team, and he has every right to get back to Garland's camp on his time schedule. Agent's always pull this shit, and you and others fall for it.
