We're not going to be China. They (perhaps rightfully) had draconian measures that help prevent the spread. Plus, it's tough to take their word on numbers for anything as truth.

Italy didn't handle it particularly well, but neither are we right now. We are grossly undertesting. Italy canceled Serie A just as we suspended the NBA. Scientists say we're about one week behind Italy on the curve. The next week will be very telling.
IIRC, the US government banned travel to and from China long before any European countries did. I'm hoping (maybe foolishly) that it helps prevent the US from seeing such a drastic increase in cases like Italy and other countries saw.

Not gonna lie, the people who have to continue working and work during normal hours (i.e. traveling during rush hour) are most at-risk for exposure.

The good news: people of working age have nearly a 100% survival rate and it presents as little more than a bad flu.

We talked about 1 out of 100 being more than it seems like in the context of lives lost, but that being said, the numbers spike sharply at 70+ and absolutely skyrocket at 80+.

For whatever reason, this virus seems to be doing very little to young kids.

If you have elderly loved ones, stay the f*** away from them in no uncertain terms until this is over.

Why are people in rush hour vulnerable?

Yeah this is the other thing, we can't understate how much 1 out of 100 is.
I’d also point out that it’s one or two out of 100 who display symptoms bad enough to go to the doctor and beyond that get tested. Assuming there’s even a test kit handy. I believe that the main issue is we don’t have good data on the number of people who are infected but either display no symptoms or mild symptoms. We only hear about the worst cases. And out of those worst cases, it’s 1-2 percent. (I believe it was over three percent the week before).
I may be totally wrong but I suspect that as we get better data, the numbers will start looking less and less ominous.

Brian Windhorst said the NBA has asked teams for building dates through August. The next season would begin in December.
Should the NBA and NHL push things back, at what point does the schedule correct itself and go back to what it was previously though?

That's my biggest question with pushing things back

I would think that a 20-21 NHL season starting in December would be around 70 games, with playoffs running to late-June. Then the 21-22 season would be normal.

With the travel ban in effect, my flight to NY next week Friday will be canceled. I was expecting this to happen, but it still comes as a huge blow.

The airline offers rebookings without additonal fees, which is nice. But what date do I pick to rebook? Is this going to be dealt with in a month? 6 months? a year? Who the f*** knows? My GF is devastated. We had all these plans lined up. Now we have to wait a few more weeks until we see each other again.

My friend's 5 year grad school reunion got cancelled and he already got tickets. But then again he'd be coming from Europe so he might get a rebooking now.
