Is it true that it'll go away by the summer? And what's with that damn Israeli vaccine?
Don't know about the vaccine.

We could definitely beat this thing by the summer if we handle it right.

We have to find that sweet spot between losing our damn minds and being very, very serious and go from there.

The absolute best thing people can do is go f***ing nowhere. Go to work if you need to, go to the store if you need to, and then go home. Stay in your city. That will isolate where it already is.

The summer might slow it down a bit. Due to humidity, etc. Just like how the flu ramps up during the dry cold air, but "goes" away during the summer months, that doesn't mean you still can't catch the flu in July. But the virus can also come back stronger next winter or mutate to COVID-20.

All I've heard on the vaccine is that Israeli scientists are "close" but nobody in the media agrees on what "close" means and it's all speculation as to exactly how much time that is.

And then it takes time to produce and disseminate it. So even if it is "close," we're looking at summer.

That depends. It presents very similar symptoms to the flu, but biologically, it's not really similar at all.

It's biologically similar to SARS/MERS which like the heat.

I can't even watch the damn Rangers game right now. I went from thinking this was also overblown nonsense and not even thinking about it to close to panic. I have no in-between, haha.

Heh...I'm still chuckling about the "crows" comment from.earlier that literally everyone ignored.

This issue shows a lack of transparency between countries. It doesn’t seem like there is solid understanding of the virus. Some people have “flu like” symptoms, some people are carriers, and others die. The one thing they do know is that its highly contagious. They recommend a 6ft radios between people. Good Luck, to all those in dense populations. Additionally, you have buttholes like the Attorney in NY who was told to quarantine and didn’t and was linked to 40 additional cases.

I have 340 Friends and family on Facebook. Almost all of these people I know in person, play hockey with, am related to, or went to college with....the thought that 3 or 4 of them may die from this disease... Seems kinda like a big deal to me.
I dont think you read my post correctly. I said 1% of the people who get it. Are all 340 people on your facebook going to get it?

And all the testing that would be required by the FDA. Gilead got stupid lucky with Remdesivir being in phase 3 clinical trials already, that seems like a better bet for a near future treatment

This will really f*** up teams that have major cap that isn't due back from LTIR until the regular season ends but have added some salary.

That was some moron in NH I think who went to an invite only business conference after being told to quarantine. The attorney was just the first case of community spread in NY

Can someone comment on Angela Merkle's comment about 60-70% of the world population being effected? Is it really that bad?

Yes. Europe is on the brink now. Here in Norway they got a lot of flack after the government made a big fuzz about the swineflu. Now they are to slow to react. The number of infected have tripled the last 2 days, and are only looking to get worse. Everything is going to grind to a halt to a stop for a time being. Oslo is about to be a ghosttown.

It will become a huge financial strain on the economy, way worse then the finance crisis a few years ago. The first companies are closing down, at first it is just those related to travel and tourism. Soon every resturant and bar will close. Bills are still coming in for them, but noone is daring or allowed to use money there. It is a really bad trickle down effect. Goods transport, specially international trade will slow down.

As a healthy mid-thirties I'm not conserned about getting very sick from the flu, but I'm worried if I have a job to go to in August, and I'm worried if my friends and family that are more at risk will still be there. I'm worried if that I'm in a car crash, the hospital have everything they need to treat me.Heck at this point in Norway I doubt they will even get trough on the 911 call.

Best tip I have read anywhere. Just binge-watch Neflix with a clean confidence.

With the travel ban in effect, my flight to NY next week Friday will be canceled. I was expecting this to happen, but it still comes as a huge blow.

The airline offers rebookings without additonal fees, which is nice. But what date do I pick to rebook? Is this going to be dealt with in a month? 6 months? a year? Who the f*** knows? My GF is devastated. We had all these plans lined up. Now we have to wait a few more weeks until we see each other again.

The ban doesn’t take place until Friday at midnight. Any chance you can get on an earlier flight?

I obviously can't say what's going through her head but a couple of things:

-She definitely said just Germany in regards to 60-70%, not the world

-Even under worst case scenario, that doesn't seem right. Italy is literally not even at 1% yet and they handled it as bad as you possibly could have.

Again, I can't say what she's thinking but I would speculate that she's just trying to get people to be vigilant.

We're not going to be China. They (perhaps rightfully) had draconian measures that help prevent the spread. Plus, it's tough to take their word on numbers for anything as truth.

Italy didn't handle it particularly well, but neither are we right now. We are grossly undertesting. Italy canceled Serie A just as we suspended the NBA. Scientists say we're about one week behind Italy on the curve. The next week will be very telling.

Look, I know a lot of things are viewed through political prisms these days. It’s unfortunate, but it’s where we are as a society.

But, consider for a moment, that some of the people taking precautionary measures right now include fairly conservative personalities.

This issue isn’t about party affiliation or world views. It’s about something that, as MH pointed out, has a number of trickle down concerns.
I've been discussing this virus in the BOH forum for nearly 2 months and it is interesting how this virus seems to be the only apolitical thing in the world. Posters that I am very familiar with, were making statements that I never would have them expected them to make.

I think our federal and state governments need to put every single option on the table. In an age of modern medicine, we're facing something fairly unprecedented.
