NBA player caught it, league had to start quarantining etc. no choice but to suspend.

NHL still has a choice. Wait for the first player/coach to get it and then suspend the season, or do it right away.

When, not if.

from a PR standpoint the NHL probably needs to follow the NBA to put whatever 'protocols' in place to 'protect' fans whatever that ends up being...they can't just play dumb and hope it doesn't effect their games. evern if its a complete overreaction, they still need to look like they are doing everything they can.

Yup. It's why I expect the season to be suspended effective tomorrow, similar to what the NBA did.

So is the NBA cancelling their season, or suspending it until further notice?

The logistics of this have to be a nightmare regardless

This is incredible.

Hope everyone is ready to go into a recession that will crush our economy.

So much panic over a virus that will only kill less than 1% of Americans who even get it. Most of them over 70.

Congrats media, you’ve done well getting those clicks.

Most of the other countries are taking more drastic measures than the USA. China is in flat out police state mode. Italy's healthcare system is in shambles due to overcrowding.

Is that the fault of all of their respective "Media?"

I’m talking about the United States of America only.

I get the whole media trying to get clicks thing, but they aren’t the one shutting down entire borders, suspending seasons, or self-quarantining.

People are doing this for a reason, because this shit is pretty serious - and the measure of its severity goes beyond how many people “die”.

Let’s even say no one dies, they’re still incredibly ill. That means industries grinding to a hault. That means the mom and pop shop in your town. It means the goods and services you rely on.

Just because someone isn’t dying, doesn’t mean the repercussions are significant.

That’s what it’s lost in this. There’s a world of f***ed up outcomes that don’t rely upon death to have major consequences.

I’m talking about the United States of America only.

At 1% lethality, based on estimated rates of infection (if we do nothing/almost nothing), it is estimated that around 1.5 million Americans would die.

That is more than the deaths in every war in American history combined.

Calling it media-manufactured hype is incredibly dangerous. We are doing the right thing by attempting to nip this in the bud early.

Yes, it was the media and its desire for clicks that made Trump shut down travel between the Europe and the US, due to a global pandemic of a virus that hadn’t been detected in humans prior to 12/1/19, and is now prevalent in 140+ countries.

edit: obvious /s

Thank you. People continuing to down play this really just blow my mind. Trump has completely reversed course on his "DNC hoax" meme and finally seems to be taking this seriously - although still not yet seriously enough. The fact that people don't seem to be at all worried about what is likely going to be 100s of thousands of deaths is, just, I don't even know.

Regardless of how safe you feel, please take this seriously and do your part to minimize the impact.

What's going to crash the economy is having the majority of the population sick at the same time.

All of the experts have said that the big-picture concern with this illness is not mortality. It's the potential for chaos.

People seem quick to criticize media, yet we can skip the media and go straight to the source. Multiple experts, governments and all kinds of acronyms have statements and even data out there advising caution and telling us to take this seriously. I know it's already been said here, but the danger isn't only the death ratio but rather the heavy strain on healthcare and the problems that causes.

But as per usual people only seem to like science when it agrees with them.
