Some of the biggest things hit include: casinos, airlines, hotels, barber shops and other beauty facilities of the like, theme parks, live events, gyms, theaters, restaurants.
One of my hardest hit friends is one of my most financially successful as well. He is a live music booking agent at Paradigm. Hasn’t been laid off yet, but all events are cancelled and there’s no cash coming in. Nothing but uncertainty to look forward to as well.

they aren't going to re-open schools for 3 weeks...shift the focus on what happens to kids when parents go back to work to camps, day care or wherever they would go over the summer when school is closed
I agree with this. To go back now, while I would support it, may not make as much sense. But focus on the camps and the daycare for the summer. Those parents need to go back to work. And frankly the kids will need it just to get over the isolation.

I do not know much about him, but just like a CEO can be hired without having to need prior experience with that product, so too can this be done. You do not know his qualifications. No matter of your level of hatred for Trump, I am sure that this guy was vetted. Sometimes leaders are those that keep the ball moving.
Of all the hills to die on when defending the President, this one is a real head scratcher. You are sure he was vetted? Why, exactly? With the revolving door of appointments being made in this administration, how could you possibly feel sure about that?

Also, Trump has his daughter and particularly his son-in-law working in high positions that are way over their heads. Do you honestly believe that Trump is carefully selecting the most qualified people to do these jobs? Are specialized Government roles really akin to CEO jobs that boil down to essentially business = business? Not in my opinion.

This is not defending Trump. This a presumption that depsite all of the ill will towards him, I would ass-u-me that a person appointed for any position would be vetted. That is just common sense to any position anywhere.

My example of a CEO was to show that their purpose may be. In my experience, business CEOs understand what needs to get done and how to do it better than most politicians.

Almost 2 months ago I discussed how we were facing a recession if not depression and u pushed back.

What a difference in your tone these days.

To be fair, pretty much every politician was also wrong. I’ll readily admit to being wrong. I expected another SARS or Swine Flu - they weren’t nothing but nothing even near on par to what we have here.

It would be great if somebody could step in and dig us out of this uncertainty, but they can't.

Even if we assume half the people run back out, if concerts are half capacity, that's still going to ruin your friend's business.

There's a lot more to restarting the economy than restrictions.

Yep. I work AV for conferences/weddings/galas/etc. in Manhattan and at first it was "people are postponing/cancelling but we're picking up in May" and then "people are postponing/cancelling but we're picking up in June" and now it's "there probably won't be anything at the venue until late July and we won't be able to pay for medical benefits past May." Especially annoying because I can't even WFH so I'm twiddling my thumbs all day.

The live event/music industry is in a complete halt right now and it's driving me insane.

I'm trying to get my way into integration/installs as that is at least somewhat healthy comparatively speaking.

Good luck man. Certainly feel your pain and wish you the best moving forward.

I’ll add that your response just sounds naive to me, which is strange because most of your other posts seem to be coming from a perspective of a worldly, I understand how the world works, kind of person.

Do Trump supporters still buy the “drain the swamp” bit? I live in the DC area now, so I get to experience the swamp first hand. It ain’t drained. These jobs are handed out to unqualified people like candy.

I especially feel bad for your friend because booking/sales is super tough right now as they're basically the bearer of bad news for the rest of the crews out there. They see the shit hitting the fan first.

I was talking to my boss the other day (he does sales for our venue) and he sounded so happy because he got to talk with a a single client that day that was actually booking a new event. It's tough man.

I would expect it to go up, but again, as of today your theory is that the flattening has occurred because of the lockdown. I understand the sentiment. Another theory is that this is simply not as deadly as originally thought. I realize that such a thought might be outrageous to some, but it is a thought. I will be candid and say that I do not know.

There is 1) contracting the virus 2) getting sick from the virus 3) dying from the virus. The amount of people that are 1 may well be a lot more than we think.

They are worried about never working again.

Hoping that all works out for you

Yes, part of the slowing down of things can be attributed to what you are saying. But is there really any question that a lockdown helped flatten things out? How is that even questionable, of course it helped slow things down. As you are saying, still plenty to learn about this virus. Which is all the more reason why delaying things as much as possible will only lead to handling this better on a pure health level.

And the people who are more on the side of staying home are worried about living again. I understand their fears, but it just isn't as bad losing that many potential lives. Again, I am referring to a place like NY here and not the places that haven't been hit overly hard.

I appreciate the sentiment (which probably sounds sarcastic based on all of our back and forth, but it isn't.)

There was no recession two months ago. I am certainly not trying to be insulting, but I am not sure how I can state this any more clearly. The very definition is two quarters of negative growth. I am not sure how you can even start to debate that.
I'm not trying to be insulting but whose definition of recession is that?

Good find, similar yet much long take which make sense to me, a sub quote within. (And no, I have nothing to do with the author or the companies)

An ignorant mind is precisely not a spotless, empty vessel, but one that’s filled with the clutter of irrelevant or misleading life experiences, theories, facts, intuitions, strategies, algorithms, heuristics, metaphors, and hunches that regrettably have the look and feel of useful and accurate knowledge.

Which I myself have been guilty of many times
