I don't see them reopening until September either. If they could open in June, which is optimistic, why bother at that point? Year's over. Wouldn't be worth the risk to get three weeks in.

Cuomo is just stating facts, though. As usual, De Blasio is just blathering on about things he doesn't understand. I don't think this is any indication that Cuomo wants them open sooner.

There is ZERO chance they open before Sept. Anyone who thinks otherwise really has no clue what is going on.

At the same time, I think shutting down the schools will be one of those things many will reconsider with a flu like this.

The schools are open in Sweden. We aren’t harder hit than anyone else. Maybe we could have done a lot better job like a few countries (so far, but how long are they intending to have their societies closed down? Like Norway who seems to have stopped the spread now).

My feeling is just like, the teacher sends anyone home with any kind of symptoms. I have three kids, they are normally around 15 of 20 students in class since anyone with mild symptoms have to stay home. They have never been healthier. They aren’t hit hard to start with.

Sitting inside for a couple of months aren’t healthy either. What will happen if you keep a generation of kids locked up inside for 6 months? Long-term health effects? They move so little anyway. I am sure we all feel like ‘they aren’t moving otherwise anyway like they used to’, but there is a difference. It’s not good like it is now. And when they stop moving, it gets harder to start.

Many experts and opposition politicians are second guessing Sweden’s strategy. But everyone have stopped questioning keeping the schools open. It’s just so obviously good for the kids, the alternative is horrible for many kids, and they don’t seem to spread much virus anyway.

Iceland tested 1/10th of its population randomly. 4.2% had Corona, 50% without symptoms.

Iceland has 1.98 deaths per 100k. The US in comparison has 5.68 deaths per 100k, and in NY state it’s of course a lot higher. NYT has reported that the death count on Corona victims in the US is really questionable, but it shouldn’t be too low.

How many have or have had the corona virus in NY state? High deaths is of course horrible, but the higher infection rate you have had the better because that means immune people. Immunity really slows down the virus even at lower levels as long as it’s not the older population that is immune (is from a virus they had like in the 40s-50s), since they don’t move around that much. Certain people move around a heck of a lot more than others. It’s individual how well you are receptive to a virus. There will always be examples of a daughter in law taking care of her husbands sick parents For months and not getting ill when everyone else gets ill. If 5% had the virus, how many of the people who shake the most hands, move around most, ride the worst subway etc etc etc will have had it? 10%? 15%? 25%?

The higher these numbers are the better. Supposedly a virus in a population with 60% immunity can more or less self die.

Except they're not, man De Blasio is such a moron. There are plenty of scenarios where it's possible to have limited re-openings, either way the Governor has final say, not the mayor
Well despite this petty back and forth act between the two of them that's been going on (which I'm tired of as well), I'm positive the year is over regardless. Like Machinehead said, all that for what, 3 weeks? Doubt it. Unless this is the first stop in Cuomo's plan to open everything back up because we're all going to become depressed and savage wife beaters

Silly question maybe but here goes:

Why can’t kids go to school in the summer to make up some of this time? If the thought is this will pass by June why not give the kids a month and a half off now and then just bring them back then to finish there year and move on to the next grade?

lol, try to convince teachers to give up their summer

It could be a big mistake to rush anything.

As far as kids going back to school in summer--are they going to go from July to June? A lot of working parents as well are going to have to find child care. For some that might be easier than others and for some it will be a lot less affordable depending on their employment situation.

You always knew that the experts knew what was going on, but that they had such a great track of it since January is really scary. Literary saying that the biggest challenge from now on is to convince the politicians that actions must be taken.

Why couldnt anyone else from Congress have done this? Why were they all too busy trying to impeach a president with bogus charging that over and over got shot down? Blame Trump all you want, but you better be blaming all your fellow congressman as well who were too busy with bullshit aside from the one guy who tried to sound the alarm in Jan.
Are you serious as well? Congress was too busy impeaching him? Nov was the first memo. January it was being reported on the news as a "thing"

When was the vote? What were they doing?

'I wish I could act on this whole pandemic thing but this impeachment deal has me sooooo busy' - Was that the issue????

Do I blame just Trump? Of course not. This isn't a scape goat issue... this is a DRAMATIC and EPIC failure top to bottom. I live in FL... does this stop with Desantis? LOL I wish.

But, it starts at the very top, with the man who didn't read the memo, and then willfully downplayed the issue once he EVENTUALLY got around to dealing with it.

My post was in direct response to "Any other POTUS would've done the same" which is absolutely FALSE.

Any normal human with an "ehhhhhhhhbrain" would've done ANYTHING to mitigate this other than waiving his or her hand and saying "We have it under control, it'll go away like a miracle" and then defending that video with "It is going away... so that statement was true"

The bodies pile up because he traded lives for the DOW
