Mother's coworker has a best friend whose husband works at Montefiore in the Bronx... they're totally out of ventilators and are turning away symptomatic people

mortifying yet it appears off the radar of so many. I ventured out for a quick drive in Connecticut. It’s hardly desolate. People walking in and out of multiple pizza restaurants, fueling up, in and out of the grocery store., etc. It’s not a busy day but hardly at the standstill I anticipated. Nature is our only hope IMO. We’re never getting this under control.

Where did Trump say to go out on Easter to Church? He is saying he HOPES and WISHES things will be back to normal by then and we can. Even then quoted saying “I’m not sure that will be the day, but it would he a beautiful thing” and “We’ll only do it if it’s good”.

Spreading fake news at it’s finest on the HFBoards

There is no chance by then. It's false hope bullshit.

IMO and it's just my opinion but it is irresponsible when the death toll (in the NYC area it's about a 100 a day now) and case loads (in the NYC area it's about 5 or 6 or 7000 a day now) are climbing every day and looking at the data as it's coming in from other countries to be talking about full churches less than three weeks from now. Anyone paying attention to what's happened in Italy and what's happening in Spain and what's happening in NYC--there are some eerie similarities and it should be enough to take a step back from any more stupid pronouncements. Donald really should visit a hospital that is really going through the shit right now. He doesn't seem to get it and FWIW I'm not sure Biden is all there either. I expect more out of national leaders than either one of them seem capable of providing.

NYC hasn’t seen its peak yet. This will roll through the rest of the country for weeks months. I understand hoping for the best. What I don’t understand is not preparing for the worst. That should have been done long ago and we still haven’t enacted the full force of our federal government to nationalize factories to mass produce ventilators and masks. Instead we are relying on an uncoordinated piecemeal approach of voluntary efforts. Sadly that won’t be enough. People who could have been saved will die. That will include doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals.

Yes it may be a slim to chance it happens but he is just throwing out a glimmer of hope. Your post was all about how he is telling people to go out to Easter Mass and then you’re telling people not to listen to him even though all you did was twist his words to help your agenda by blatantly lying about what he said. That’s what we dont need at this time when people are looking for legit info, not cool.

What is going on and has been going on does not appear to be uncoordinated or piecemeal.

And how would you nationalize factories? Government takes over equity ownership?

Pretty obvious to me that with Trumps decree again today that the "US will be open for business by Easter" which flies in the face of what the medical community is saying meaning that the social distancing that has been in place for the past week and lockdowns like in stats like PA where I reside will be relaxed, that Governors like Cuomo in NY and Newsome in CA and possibly some other Governors will likely not go along with Trump on this and it's going to create a bigtime shit storm.

It's so obvious that this is what is going to occur that you could write the headlines right now and it's almost 3 weeks away....ugggggg!!!

This may have been answered elsewhere, but it's settled law (well over 100 years) that states have the right to declare and enforce health emergencies. The federal government can advise (and I suppose threaten to withhold emergency funds) but they cannot overturn a state's emergency health order.

anybody else have a type of panic attack where it seems like you're not getting enough air?? I am getting paranoid
No but I have been extremely diligent about working out 5 days a week, going for at least a 30 minute walk outside and when possible, if I am going to be on my laptop post work hours that I do it outside.

It has really helped keep me sane during all this.

Shortness of breath is a very common symptom of a panic attack (usually brought on by shallower and different breathing responses).

In absence of any other COVID symptoms, it's frankly a normal thing (and do recognize trying to find normalcy in a panic attack isn't terrible effective)

If experiencing panic attacks, not a bad idea to practice breathing exercises ahead of time so you know how to cope in the moment:

Deep breathing can help you return to your normal breathing pattern and may also have a relaxing effect. To get your breathing back on track, follow these basic guidelines:

  1. Notice your breath and how it has changed. Remind yourself that you are in control of your breathing.
  2. Place your hands on your rib cage. Now, inhale slowly through your nose, filling your ribcage with air. Slowly exhale through the nose, taking note of how the rib cage contracts.
  3. Repeat several breaths, counting to 10 as you inhale and 10 as you exhale. With each breath, try to relax any tension in your face, neck, and shoulders.
  4. Place your hands on your belly. Stay with your deep, smooth breathing. Take a deep breath in and fill your belly with air. Notice how your belly rises into your hands as you inhale and how your navel pulls into the spine as you exhale. Repeat for several more breaths.

We have states bidding against each other over needed supplies. Price gouging is punished at local level.

Read the below article. Trump can use the DPA to mass produce equipment and supplies. This has been done on the past for much less serious crises. He has mentioned he might do it a few times. He hasn’t. Why? I don’t know.

Avs player had the virus? This statement makes it seem like this isn't new, but results came in today or recently

Makes sense.

About a week ago they announced that a worked at the Pepsi Center tested positive, and about a week and a half ago, someone who works at SAP Center tested positive.

So I can see a player getting infected around then, and then going into quarantine and recovering. Seems odd that they didn't know until seemingly today though.

Not 100% sure yet, will wait to see how I feel tomorrow morning, starting to freak out

It really depends on testing capacity.

Ive been reading that people in metro areas are having a significantly harder time that those who live in rural areas. I believe it. My sister-in-law was able to get tested with ease and she lives in the absolute sticks.

It absolutely does look uncoordinated and piecemeal. We have had messaging from the federal government telling us that the virus was beaten to encouragement to continue business, and individual states have been shutting themselves down to combat this bug in what seems to be a party-line divide. There appears to have been no coordination of production and distribution of medical supplies at the federal level, when the Defense Production Act is the primary means of mobilizing the manufacturing capacity of the country to combat this kind of crisis, in spite of messaging from the federal government indicating that this has been done.

States have been left on their own in this crisis, and while they have the authority and capability (some more than others) to do some of this, they need help that they aren't getting from the federal government. Look no further than governor Cuomo's public comments, starting with (paraphrased) "please, please help us, we need help" to "we aren't getting the help we need, you guys suck" to "we're going to have to beat this on our own, right now emotion is a luxury we can't afford, but the federal government will be hearing from me when all this is over."

What’s even worse is states are left to compete against each other for dwindling supplies and raising prices and those states that dont win out lost valuable time. It makes all the sense in the world to ramp up production centrally and then dole out supplies to those who need it urgently. The interior of this country will see their peak in a few weeks. NYC has been largely left to fend for itself on the deep end. Shameful non-response from our federal government.

How the heck can we have more people infected than China who was a billion more people than us?

How the heck can we have more people infected than China who was a billion more people than us?
Because China can clamp down to an extent that we simply won’t. The Chinese were using drones and the military to enforce strict lockdown. To confront this there needs to be a very strong initial reaction.

That simply has not happened here. We are seeing the result and the worst is yet to come for us all.
