I'm going to get a lot of hate for this probably, but the way he plays tonight, he's not that good. He just takes the puck and uses his speed to try to get a breakaway by going through the entire other team. And it never works.

When I watched him last year he was creating plays with his passing and it was awesome. He's got speed but damn, just trying to do it all by himself on the rush isn't going to translate at all.

really doesnt have much for linemates, dont blame the guy because he has the skill to do it himself anyways

Well he does get through the other team but he doesn't score

Skill is absolutely there, I just hate the way he uses it tonight.

agree with this. haven't liked the way he's played tonight.

his speed is incredible and he gets around the d almost every time but his finishing has been weak and he looks like he's trying to do everything himself.

still very early and things may start to click but I think Erie needs to get a top notch finisher on his line.

Anton Karlsson would have been that guy but he chose to stay in Sweden unfortunately.

Really? Cuz today before the game it had him at 6' 170 , ans when I check during the game it had changed to 6'1 187? All the better if he is 195 though.

you sure about that? McDavid hasn't been 170 since his rookie season.

I'm pretty sure he's about to around 195 now.

Bust. Only 1 point. Will never make it to the NHL. Fourth line duster. John Scott comparable. Terrible. :sarcasm:

Does this comparison remind anyone of the Crosby v.s Malkin debate? Just seems too similar to me. Between the two, very hard to tell whos the better skater, although Crosby/McDavid seem to have better edgework and quick, tight turns while Malkin/Eichel seem to just glide effortlessly. Malkin/Eichel also protect the puck very well with their long reaches and have fantastic shots. Crosby/McDavid probably have a slight edge in playmaking. Hockey IQ is pretty close between the two NHL players and prospects as well, just to me seems like a very similar comparison.

Good either way imo 187-195 is a very soild for him.

It was 6' 180 before the game, 6'1 187 during. Sorry I ment to write 180.

This is OHL, they don't have big budgets.. Ever think maybe they updated the site during or after the 1st game? They likely don't employ a web guy over the summer and he could have started again when the season started.

His new height/weight was likely how he measures this year.

I saw McDavid this summer - I'm 6' and I'd say he was slightly taller then me, although I was about 15 feet away so I'm not sure. Definitely looks like he's got a frame to grow into though - he could probably get up to 215-220 in a few years without losing a step.

I wonder if this year's McDavid/Eichel analysis will exceed the MacKinnon/Jones of 2 years ago. It's getting there.

TSN has nothing better to do with its time than pimp the hell out of the WJHC and the much anticipated New Year's Eve match-up... I imagine the hype machine will be in overdrive starting soon. and to set it all up, Button's December list will have Eichel #1 ahead of McDavid just to give it a little extra juice.

How big is the gap between McDavid/Eichel

I know it's tough to say at this point, but in your opinion, how big is the difference between these two players? Is McDavid going to be far and away better? Does Eichel have a chance to be better? Interested to hear thoughts.

I think the gap is as wide as it's always been which is quite wide.

A race for #1 is much sexier for the media though.

McDavid will go #1 because of the comparisons to the great one and also his skill, McDavid is the better hockey player right now to Eichel. I don't really see anyway Eichel takes McDavid off #1 unless a serious injury or something. McDavid's quick start and phenomenal play in the OHL is making the gap bigger with every game IMO.

Decent gap but getting bigger.

I love Eichel. He skates like MacKinnon, with better hands...like elite level hands in traffic. But McDavid is a step above. Just processes everything so well. Don't see anything holding him back from being the 1st pick.

Eichel is elite. He's the best player out since.... Tavares? So if there's a big gap between him and McDavid, McDavid better be pretty freakin awesome.
