Player Discussion Connor McDavid Part III | UPD: Will Play Tuesday!!!!!

I feel like I've forgotten that the Oilers have this kid on their team. That video reminds you that McDavid is going to be special, he's going to bring the house down once he gets back into the swing of things.
Only 5 players on the team have more points than Connor does.

And is tied for 12th in rookie scoring. I think he can push for second but the "rookie" Panarin will out score him at the super young age of 24.

I have a hard time believing that after already skating for ~2 weeks he still needs basically another month before he returns.

Take a look at Tony Romo... That's what happens when you rush back from this injury. Now out for the season.

Take a look at Patrick Kane.... That's what happens when you rush back from injury. Now having the best season of his career and one of the best of any player in recent memory.

The bottom line is that I don't see him being rushed at all. It has already been 7 weeks which is when Kane returned. He's been skating for a while now and has started to take shooting drills.

He'll likely be back at the 8 week mark at the earliest IMO (Jan. 2nd against Arizona is when I think he returns) so when he's 100% ready to go, he'll play. I don't see the need for all this extra caution because of what happened to a player in another sport.

Hopefully he comes back and does well. It would suck if he really struggles :(

I think that he's ready to go right now and that he'll be in the lineup on Boxing day against the Canucks.:yo:

wait wait wait. I know I haven't been paying close attention, Christmas prep, World Juniors and all, but from what I gather he hasn't even practiced with the team yet, you know a full contact team practice...

and people are expecting him back Boxing Day? Just after Christmas?

Am I missing something? Until he's cleared for contact, he's still 3 weeks to a month away.

I hope he's back for the mid January Florida swing...as I'll be there. but I'm beginning to have my doubts about that even.

I don't think he'll be back for boxing day, but your timetable for returning to contact practice and returning to game action is way off.

Patrick Kane was cleared for contact practice on April 12 last year and played a playoff game on April 15, 3 days later, and he started skating and shooting just over 2 weeks prior to that.

I'm not saying full contact practice for 3 weeks before back on the active roster...

I'm saying from today, at this point in time, in the rehab process, looks to me at least 3 weeks away...at the earliest... and I'm just hoping. b/c as I said, I'll be in Florida when the team skates through for the 2.

waiting for news that he's cleared for full contact. :)

Well he's been skating and shooting for almost 2 weeks now, he's just not doing it with the team (maybe for precautionary reasons). Kane jumped straight into practice at 5 weeks post injury (around the same time McDavid has been reported to be skating and shooting since) and then returned to game action 2 weeks later. Even if you give McDavid an extra week on top of that (assuming all the scans come back good that the bone is healed) I don't think he's anymore than 2 weeks away.

I'm flabbergasted that some still think he needs another month before his return. He's not made of glass.

He'll be back when he's ready and if it happens to be boxing day [doubt it, maybe first game in 2016], so be it.

I would bet he will be finding his pace again the first 1-2 games and then take off.
If he comes back with say 42 games remaining, I see 50 pts coming. Plus his 12 he has and that could be enough for the Calder

OK,

I know this is all sorts of selfish...but....

I'm flying in from North Carolina to catch the Calgary game with my brother and then the L.A. game in Edmonton 2 nights later....

So, am I looking at a team without Connor ? No chance ?

Cheers,

If those games are in December, than unfortunately chances are pretty low.
