Got the Red Sox on the ropes and we are trotting out this lineup? Tapia hitting 4th over Chapman, Kirk and Espinal? Its like Charlie is fine with this series ending up 2-2 with this lineup.

23. Blue Jays: Malcolm Moore, C, McClatchy HS, Calif. (No. 44)
There are always high school hitters who are ranked a bit lower but sneak into the back end of the first round. Moore’s name has been brought up all over this last part of the round, and he’s a hot commodity -- a left-handed-hitting catcher who has been compared at times to A’s 2020 first-rounder Tyler Soderstrom.

They have Rocker going right before us at 22. With 4 picks in the top 70, the Jays would have more than enough pool to sign Rocker, but that is a very high risk arm.

Before the injury, he was the consensus top pitcher going in the top 10. Great stuff, high school arm and excellent frame. I would love to take him and have him rehab with the Jays. But he is a Vanderbilt commit so it will be incredibly hard to convince him to forgo that.

From Georgia so not too far from the Jays training facility in Dunedin.

I'm just gonna say it... Montoyo has been solid this year with pitcher usage, (mostly) lineup construction, and the bench.

But that one is just ugly. They're already limited by player availability, and that's the best he can come up with? Ugh.

remember that lineup if they lose today and lose out on the playoffs by a game again.

3. Toronto Blue Jays

Record: 12-7

Previous ranking: 4

This Blue Jays team is living up to expectations. Shortstop Bo Bichette's struggles have marked one of the few weak spots in the lineup, but the young star knocked a go-ahead grand slam to beat the Red Sox 6-2 on Monday. Catcher Zack Collins has also been one of the team's best contributors so far since coming over from the Chicago White Sox via trade before the season. -- Joon Le

Didn't Guerrero DH last night? Is he hurt?

I can't think of a non-injury reason not to have him in the lineup at this point in the season.

Does everyone really think that Montoyo has carte blanche with all his decisions? Gotta think the FO is involved heavily with most decisions, especially the non in-game ones. They most certainly have waaay more information available to them than we do

it’s a long season and currently in the middle of a 20 games in 20 days stretch

He fouled a ball of his foot pretty hard yesterday. Factoring that in, I don't necessarily have an issue with Vladdy sitting today. Keeping guys healthy throughout the season is way more important than having an optimized lineup every day.

I just think if those are the guys you are going to play, you could do a hell of a lot better than that lineup. At least move Tapia down a couple spots.

The front office has no control on lineup construction. They have better things to do. This is all Charlie, his affinity for garbage players is other worldy

Why does Charlie think that Tapia has any power? I admit, he has been pretty useful, but batting 4th? I gotta question Charlie's knowledge and understanding of the game. On what planet is he a cleanup hitter?

You seriously believe the FO doesn’t question or offer input at all?

This is a smart front office. I'm pretty sure they're not up there saying "yo, charlie, bat that slap-hitting GB machine 4th because he had a long sac fly the other day."

They absolutely probably have input on lineup construction, but at the end of the day that's a field-level decision and they likely don't micromanage it.

Now if Charlie gets replaced by another manager and the same baffling decisions occur, then it's time to reevaluate that stance, but for now I'm going to believe that the manager is responsible for manager things in lieu of evidence to the contrary.

For all of the great plays Devo made, it's the way he made casual catches at his chest on routine flies that I'll never forget. Just, like, "This is one's too easy, it's not even worth the effort of lifting my arm up to catch it." He was the coolest, smoothest defender I can remember seeing.
It always shocked me that he never dropped one. That’s one of the things that makes him so memorable for me.

I’d be really annoyed if we took a catcher with our first pick

Kirk has improved so much defensively. So much great catching depth at this point.
