It's interesting to note that a lot of the alternative names thrown around last offseason are not off to the greatest starts.
GSAx:
Kuemper: -0.6
Gibson: -1.2
Blackwood: -1.5
Campbell: -2.4
Vanacek: -3.4
Fleury: -6.4 (worst in the NHL so far)
Talbot: Injured 5-7 weeks
Except nobody said that. Just because something didn't turn out perfectly, that doesn't mean a horrible move that would have actively sabotaged the team was the correct thing to do. And quite frankly, it's not productive to patchwork together a bunch of cherry picked best case scenarios filled with a whole lot of assumptions and hindsight and then be upset that we didn't do that. If that's how you look at things, then you're always going to be disappointed. So in summary, everything worked out absolutely perfectly, as designed. Would not, could not change a thing.
Murray's odds of being injured were not 100%, and many of those goalies have experienced injury struggles. Mess has not shown to be a good forecaster of anything, and for the record, the goalie he's been advocating for all offseason was pulled in his 2nd start and is currently the 5th worst goalie in the league so far. What were their odds of being injured because Murray's were 100% and the betters cashed in Saturday. Perhaps @Mess is a better forecaster than the Leaf GM ??

Yes, Murray is out for some early year regular season games with a minor injury/discomfort, and in the meantime, our other tandem goalie is playing quite well.Yet after 1 game, Murray is out for a month.

Not sure what your point is. I thought playoffs was all that mattered to you anyway?
100%. BTW you forgot Husso in your list who along with Fleury were at the top of the Leafs list, until they weren't.
You have no idea who was at the top of the Leaf's list. Husso is at +0.76 so far, as a result of a game where Montreal couldn't even generate a single expected goal. Though I would think somebody who puts so much emphasis on the playoffs would be more concerned about Husso being the worst goalie in the entire playoffs last year.100%. I'll keep Samsonov for the regular season and Murray for the playoffs.i hate to say it, but, we seem to have gotten what i expected...
Samsonov is solid, and Murray is fragile.
I'd have rather Samsonov and just kept Mrazek, or after flipping him took a gamble on another youngster like Comrie, though, having 2 young unproven goalies would have been a huge gamble, but, no less than gambling on Murray's health.

That just might be the formula that works.
...and it's only 6M on the cap.
Well they posted his stats for the start of the year earlier for the start of a season hopefully he can keep it goingWhere are all of those stats that suggested Samsonov wasn't a good goalie?
