Has anyone deactivated or stopped using Twitter?

In the last couple days I've noticed you can't do 'latest tweets' first again... and there's just a column of 'For you', which are including tweets from users I do not follow (some of which I specifically don't want to see), or 'Following' only, but it's not in real time (ie latest first).

Sometimes I'm seeing Tweets multiple times a day because they're repeating in the queue, probably because they're popular, meanwhile I'm missing all the tweets I would normally see throughout the day... Which is the same issue I was having let's say a year or so ago when Twitter would constantly revert back to 'most popular' vs 'latest'.

I guess I just need to kick the habit, but idk where else to go for news.
I was already slowly using Twitter less and less over the past year or two, and once Musk took over I pretty much stopped entirely. It's a mess.

Isn't Mastodon supposed to be the alternative to Twitter now? I never had a Twitter account but all my friends who do are switching.

I have an account there but I’m not on there very often. Trying out Hive too but I’m on there even less.

At first my Twitter feed was only hockey people, and then a few others. It worked back then. When I expanded into other topics it became useless for news like you say, plus they're doing way more suggested material which like you say is annoying. I basically don't use it anymore.

Create an account and only follow people who report on the subject you want. I've tried creating lists for that, and it did work, they've just never made it seemless to access it regularly.

First thing they need to do is to ban the word "server" from their website. The average Twitter user don't want to choose a server or deal with more complicated stuff than just having to log in and start following people.
That kinda goes against their whole decentralized method and way they have been built off volunteers…

But the lack of ability to login and just have it work, hurts it a lot. People want and really need things to be simple. If you have to make more than a couple choices, odds are people will just put it off and never come back. That goes for most things in life

Moving this Meghan discussion to the media thread...

She is going to make her way to Altitude soon enough, I have no doubt about that.
She's clearly destined for TV. Usually women in NHL broadcasts either have good hockey knowledge or are overly pretty. She has both.

Perhaps as soon as next year. She's a goldmine.

Does that mean we're going to lose Katie Gaus. 'Cause I'm gonna be pissed when/if we do. I think she's been the best of the bunch so far. I love that she even talks geek stats on occasion.

Yeah I have no issue whatsoever with Katie. She's been a good addition.

Meghan will get a really good gig talking sports in front of a camera sooner rather than later. Where that is remains to be seen.

I'd recommend tweetdeck if you're using a laptop and hootsuite for mobile. I never know what all of these people are complaining about because I never actually use the twitter app or website. My timeline is always in order and tweetdeck allows you to filter everything to your liking.

@The Mars Volchenkov Is it normal that on your website all the stories are free and not behind the paywall? Just want to make sure that you're doing it right...would suck to realize in a couple of months that you got no new sub because the articles were free and you didn't know.

Yes most are free. The one’s with the + are sub only.

Oh shit...truer words never spoken.

A friend of mine lived nearby in Northglenn (even worse) and even she called it "the ghetto."
It always cracks me up when people saying things like that about Denver or how Denver is filled with crime... as a big city, yeah there are some spots of crime and some areas that aren't great. But Denver is probably one of the nicest and safest big cities in the US. Anybody saying that would be appalled by what they see in say Memphis, which is legitimately rough.

It’s definitely gotten worse as the city and state have boomed, but yeah compared to a lot of other cities, it could be waayyyy worse.
