Lacroix wasn't exactly Mr. Transparency himself.

On a side note, those awful sparkling waters that people drink with the gaudy designs on them--when people call them "La-Croys" it makes my skin crawl. I can't bring myself to pronounce "Lacroix" any other way.

Always nice to see Av alums on the pod.

Did I hear that right that he had Bertuzzis back in the Moore incident? Parky didnt like Moore?

Hartley seems like he was hated everywhere he went in the league lol.

Haven't listened to this, but Parker has always hated Hartley. He thought he was a bully. IIRC he has said that Hartley pressured him to play hurt and made him feel like he was a coward if he didn't. Among other things.

And like a lot of the NHL boys club, he didn't like that Moore took the legal route with Bertuzzi. Which is silly because Moore's career was over. So what's he gonna do, just accept that Bertuzzi ended his career and potentially cost him millions? He was gonna be an NHLer for sure in some capacity. He had proven he wasn't an AHLer.

I took it like he hated Moore before the incident. Gonna have to go back and rewatch.

The treatment The Sheriff received from Hartley was downright abusive. It's clear Hartley wanted his goons to be rabid dogs by the time they reached the ice, and he treated them as such. He's about as old-school as they come. I believe at one point he told Parker he could go back to Hershey to inhale chocolate fumes or something like that. I bet the franchise that won a Calder Cup with Hartley at the helm didn't much care for that remark.

It's also clear Parker considered Moore to be a prissy Harvard boy. Whatever, I take his rants with a grain of salt because I'm pretty sure he's suffering from the effects of CTE. Based on what his wife has said the symptoms appear to be very similar to what Johan Franzen still suffers from these days.

I’ve always had mixed feelings about him TBH. Couldn’t ever figure out why the hell Lacroix used a first rounder on him. Sure he was pretty productive his draft year but that dude was always going to be a goon.
That was the year PL acquired 4 1sts and tried to trade them all for Vinny Lacalvier, was turned down and we ended up with Alex Tanguay, Martin "Puck Poise" Skoula, Robyn Regehr and Scott Parker. Not a terrible group but Parker does kinda stand out. Simon Gagne was taken two spots after Parker. Jiri Fischer and Scott Gomez were two other first rounders taken after Parker.

I'm sure I recall a previous interview with Parker where he said he didn't like Steve Moore because he was a college boy coming into the room with his brains and whatnot. Oh god turns out I'm remembering something from ten years ago: Former Avs Tough Guy Scott Parker: Moore-Bertuzzi 'Wasn't Vicious'

[Todd Bertuzzi's] a good man. He, he is. I mean, he did get dealt some bad cards, and the thing is, [Steve Moore] always thought he was better than everybody else. He went to Harvard, you know what, blow me. College grad. I never went to college, but I can kick your ass. I'll bring you right down to my IQ level if you want. I'll hit you about four times in the skull, that'll bring you right down.

And Todd, he might have gone overboard, and what's crazy is, even talking to him after the fact and talking to Moe, Morris and other boys that were in that, that happened, I watched that tape about a hundred times, and just the way Todd hit him, and he actually grabbed him to soften his blow when he went down, and what happened was when Moe landed on him, he actually hit the back of his neck and it actually popped up. You know, just the way Todd was holding him.

But you know, it wasn't vicious, it was just, it was the heat of the moment. It was one of those things where you, you want to do something, but you don't know if it's gonna be big, if it's gonna be small, or how it's gonna pan out. But you wanna do something. And Todd, he might not have been right and it might have been a little overboard, but you know, he did something. I mean, at least he responded, at least he tried.

If Kiz followed him out the door I'd be breaking out the cheap champagne.

Though none of these clowns come even close to Merilatt or whatever the hell his name is. He's the Jay Mariotti/Woody Paige of the local sports beat.
It's the Denver Post, they won't replace him, they just did away with Avs coverage. *LOL* And coincidentally, their Avs coverage will increase in quality exponentially by just stopping.

Here's part 2 of Brett Shumway's original interview from MHH: An Afternoon With Former Avalanche Enforcer Scott Parker: Part 2

Hard to believe this interview is over a decade old. A bunch of hockey media picked up on it the day it was published.

Most (not all) children grow out of the "school is for chumps" phase by the time they graduate high school. They just accept that higher education isn't for them and move on with life like well-adjusted adults should do.

Parker thought that Steve getting his career ruined was cool because he had a college degree. To this day, I'm blown away by the level of idiocy here. I don't think it was the CTE talking, either.

Might be CTE, might not be, but either way it's a guy who defined his entire vocation through violence. That's gonna warp a lot of people's brains.

Doesn't excuse it by any means though. I wasn't a huge fan of the Sheriff back in the day (personally I thought he was just a lousy hockey player) but I can see why a lot of fans liked him. He's obviously still liked by the organization and players like Sakic and Forsberg. I also feel like the Avs turned their back on Moore the moment he filed that lawsuit, but that's a larger discussion for a different day.

I absolute agree with you on that.
