Pierre McGuire dropping his pants and curling one out would be unique and different, doesn't mean it should happen

That shot just looks... weird. Like there's something unreal about it. I stand by what it said about it looking like an old video game where they can't render the crowd properly so they just blur out the background.

It looks different because that's not how TV, and especially sports are usually shot. So you're not used to it. The look is mostly due to using a faster lens with a shallow depth of field, whereas you're used to seeing TV and sports with everything in focus, including the crowd.

I would guess they're just copying the NFL who uses a Sony α7R IV with a 2.8 lens for touchdowns. It has the same look.

It's also just a handheld mirrorless camera, not the giant TV broadcast cameras you're used to seeing. So the colors are going to look a little different even if they apply a LUT in the truck.

Huh. Didn't realize Julie has been out of sports media since 2019.

I feel kinda bad criticizing her because she always looked a bit over her head. As I've said before those first Altitude years were, to say the least, a work in progress.

I didn't realise that Altitude fired her? She wasn't made for the telly, that's fine because it ain't for everyone. You got find your niche.

Here's the weird thing, Altitude has never taken down her bio from their website.

Can't remember if she was let go right at the same time they hired Vic, I think it was before. They definitely laid off Maya Starks after hiring Vic though.

Friedman talked about it several times lately. People heard about him and they saw highlights but the fact is most of the east coast fans/media don't get the chance to watch him much.

These people are just now discovering how good he is because the Avs are making a deep playoff run.

Yep and the Gretzky quote has gone a long way to bump his stock, too. Gretz has been known to not exactly temper his player comparisons in the past, but it's well documented that Bobby Orr was his idol and as far as I know he's never compared anyone to him before. That's about as high of praise as you can possibly get.

Yep this is just an overall theme for the Avs in general. The Avs non existent media presence and being in the mountain time zone, has meant that nobody really pays attention to them. Just the occasional highlights.

They've been considered the favorite all year, but they're probably the only favorite I can think of that the media never really talked about during the playoffs until the last couple days.

It's also why many of us joked around with the Hughes/Fox comparisons. We knew it was only a matter of time until the rest of the world caught up to what we already knew. Cale's just in a class of his own. Nobody in the game right now is on his level.

LOL at Frei asking Lehkonen how much "consternation" there was when Tampa tied it. Then Lehkonen saying, "Pardon?" Then Frei asking again how much "consternation" he had, as if Lehky knows what the hell consternation is.

Then to top it off they cut the video off at the end, because they probably couldn't tell he was still speaking. :biglaugh:

Yeah that was hilarious, someone had to chime in and say “Concern” to help him out.

In case anyone cares, Google says the Finnish word for consternation is tyrmistystä, although it apparently also means “outrage” so I’ll leave it to the resident Finns here to sort that out.

Interesting to see they went to full-on old fashioned press scrums. I had totally forgotten about those, got so used to the nice organized pressers on Zoom or in person with the giant name tags.

Chambers asked a good question for once, he asked Bettman about the Avs TV situation in Denver. Gary isn't pleased with what's going on, where local fans can't even watch their team on TV.. Skip to 13:50

Make no mistake: Bettman is, as always, incorrect. This 'issue' is not the fault of the providers. It is the fault of Kroenke's greed. Bettman mentions MSG, but the only sports owner who is a bigger jagg-off than Kroenke is James Dolan of Madison Square Garden. KSE and MSG want way too much money.

Bettman represents the interests of the owners

That is the entire problem with the NHL. A commissioner should protect the interests of the SPORT, not just the OWNERS. Kenesaw Mountain Landis is rolling in his grave.
Nope. He's hired and paid by the owners to represent them. Not represent the sport of hockey.

They (the owners) are the NHL and Bettman is their voice.
