Might be. Would make sense if the second guy was the Wings trainer too. He looks slightly different from recent photos though. Face looks thinner but maybe he lost weight. This is Pat Karns. His bio says he was a trainer for the Avs.
Yeah, the next guy is John Wharton, who was the Wings' trainer in the late 90s.

I know they have this E60 with the old Avs-Wings rivalry, but It's so odd how this current Avalanche team gets so little interest from the media despite being a Cup favorite. Earlier in the playoffs they never had any pre game analysis about the Avs. They even talked for 15 minutes in the pre game about the Oilers game the previous night, never once talking about the Avs game coming up.

The ESPN In The Crease show after the last game was only like 5 minutes long and basically the same as the normal highlight video. With Linda Cohn by herself just going through the motions describing the game and no analysis.

And I just went back to watch Burakovsky's last shift on the Sportsnet feed and it was like they were still covering the Battle of Alberta, not Colorado vs Edmonton.

"There's Burakovsky back. So that's good for the Avalanche."

"Boy is it ever. That's a good sight for the Calgary faithful there as Burakovsky looked like he was gonna be struggling to get himself back."

One of their top hockey guys is Greg Wyshynski, a die-hard Devils fan who has made it clear he's still bitter about 2001, and continues to call the Avs "bland." I actually don't mind the troll job, but what irritates me is him whining about some persecution complex afterward. Like, dude, you're trolling an entire fanbase, don't get all butthurt when they actually come after you.

Yeah the bland comment was whatever (even though it's fun to poke fun at him over) but acting like he didn't understand why Avs fans were giving it to him afterwards was weird.

The whole thing felt a little phony and staged for engagement. The classic 'Everyone thinks the Cup favorite is a great team, so I'm gonna act like they're nothing special' troll. Surprised Kiszla didn't beat him to it.

Wings are definitely favored in the media and historical lens and I think there’s a few reasons for it:
- they arguably did get the best of us. Thanks to the Statue of Liberty and game 7 meltdown they got the tie breaking 3rd cup of the Avs/Wings era.
- they continued to be a high end organization when we fell off due to poor drafting and salary cap
- bowman, yzerman, shanahan, etc these guys are true old boys club royalty in Canada
- Claude was universally reviled
- Roy was disliked by hockey Canada
- Forsberg was generally disliked by hockey media relative to his stature as a player
- Illitch more engaged and better loved than kroenke in hockey circles
- historical hockey market

Etc

This + play in the East (even if they weren't technically) + original 6 team are the 3 reasons. Don't need to look further than that.

I just watched ESPN+'s new show The Drop and they gave Wyshynski 23 minutes of a 35 minute program, and it was literally 23 minutes of the most bland hockey TV I've seen.

Provided no interesting analysis whatsoever, just boring cookie cutter segments, lame jokes, smug eyebrows, and when he talked about the Avs it was dripping with obvious hatred.

His bias was so strong, he couldn't even vote for the Avs/Oil series over the East for "Best Ensemble" despite having four of the best players in the NHL. Yet he was constantly pumping the Rangers tires. What the hell kind of hung up on 01 Devils fan hates the Avs more than the Rangers?

Not that I'm at all interested in defending Wysh but it's clear that pumping the Rangers' tires is an ESPN-mandated thing. I thought I read somewhere that their insistence on giving the Rangers preference in coverage forced that ridiculous back-to-back in the Florida series, which to me is inexcusable. I'm betting Wysh, Devils fan that he is, can't stand the Rangers.

Someone was commenting online about how great the TNT broadcast looks opposed to the ESPN broadcast, and how the latter looks practically amateur hour to the former. I'm inclined to agree. I still can't believe ESPN doesn't know how to balance the goddamned sound properly. I literally cannot hear their people over the crowd noise. Even Altitude on their worst day are much better than that.

ESPNs audio has been atrocious this postseason. I could not hear the announcers at all in the Edmonton/Calgary series. And their on ice audio is delayed almost a full second....

NHL.com ended up making a more inclusive highlight package, but I don’t know why the hell they made this one below for a 4-0 Avs win. To go with the theme from TNT, it was literally all Oiler highlights. And by all I mean all.

They went from the 1st period to the final 20 seconds of the 2nd, skipping the Avs first 3 goals, just to show a point shot by Barrie with no rebound. Then showed an Oiler highlight in the 3rd. Then skipped the Avs 4th goal. Then showed the weakest shot on Frankie of the game. Then skipped to the end with Frankie getting hugs.

This encapsulates how slanted the media attention has been for the Oilers over the Avs.

It’s a Francouz highlight package for his shutout. It’s not a game recap.

It's been that way for all their live games in every sport for nearly 4 years. Football is AWFUL to listen to. They pipe in so much crowd noise and on the field sounds that it drowns out everything else. They might as well not have any commentators. Wouldn't sound much different.

Really? I've never seen them do that before. Terrible shot selection for a shutout highlight package if so. They left out better saves and showed some pretty weak ones. Unnecessary to show the Avs PP sequence at the end if that's what they were intending the video to be too.

If his obsession with the Rangers is just an act to impress ESPN, he's even more pathetic than I thought. Surprised Devils fans haven't turned on him.

I really think this has a lot to do with it. The media's like, "Oh you don't want to play ball? Ok go play by yourself then. We're not doing you any favors either."
I think sports reporters have a higher opinion of Jerry Sandusky than anyone who won’t give them a quote.

If we're talking about the quality of the broadcasts, one thing I really don't like about the TNT ones is when they have the low camera angle from the end boards during faceoffs, and they had it at the end of game 2 when the players were all off the benches, it's like that weird miniaturisation filter that focuses on the players and not anything else in the background. It doesn't work, it makes the whole picture look like an old video game. It's even more jarring than Darren Pang was last round.

Kind of ridiculous that the Avs site still doesn't have the post game interviews from last game. Edmonton has todays interviews with Bednar and Mikko/Frankie, but not yesterdays with the Avs, and the Avs still don't have either.

There must be video because TNT got a tape of it to show some sound bytes. The Avs will probably put the game 3 postgame stuff up the same time they put up the game 4 pregame stuff tomorrow.

Seems like the Avs always have this problem on the road, like they may not even send someone themselves, and rely on the home team to send over the tape. Which would be another ridiculous penny pinching measure for a Cup favorite on the verge of going to the finals.

Would only take about 30 minutes to send over the video and upload it, but the two interns that probably do all this stuff for the Avs seem to take every Sunday off no matter what. Not sure why they can't find someone to take 30 minutes on a sunday to upload a video.
