Buddy, Winning the president´s trophy and then getting swept by Columbus in Round 1 was a historical upset.

Vegas sweeping LA in Round 1 in their first year, thats a "historical upset".
A 2nd year expansion team beating the defending champs in their first playoff series would be historic. Sure, not Tampa/CBJ 2019 or Pens/Isles 1993 (biggest upset in NHL history IMO), but along the lines of SJ/Detroit 1994, which was the Sharks first playoff series (3rd season) back when expansion drafts weren't as generous.
I know, you are still butthurt from last year and getting eliminated this year from Toronto may suck, but c´mon, really? That keeps you going?
I said I live in Seattle, so naturally it's exciting seeing the local team (who obviously has zero rivalry with the Bolts cause geography) do well in their first ever playoff series. I know, you're still butthurt from reaching the brink of elimination after losing tonight, but I'm still surprised you missed that obvious point.

People need to stop acting like the 22-23 Avs are some powerhouse contender.

Colorado's offensive depth is abysmal. The bottom six has one assist all series, their only purpose is to survive until MacKinnon or Rantanen get the puck in the net.
No Valeri Nichuskin , no Landeskog all playoffs , Makar missing tonight's game. The Avs are a powerhouse. Alot of teams would struggle while missing 2 top 6 forwards and arguably the games best defensman. They had to lose some good players from the cap being tight but they still have a great team.

Whatever keeps you going. Your team (one of your teams) will be golfing pretty soon, and my team will follow.

I don´t give a shit about "historical" nonsense, to be honest.

I didn´t miss the point, dont worry. My team is just not good enough this year. And it seems not even good enough to beat Seattle. That´s it. End of story. Call it whatever you want.

The Avs bottom six is still weak even with Landeskog and Nuke. They needed major improvements at the deadline to defend the cup, but our GM waived a white flag at the deadline.

Depth is killing this team (or will be killing this team). Look at the stats from our bottom 6. And then watch the depth and bottom 6 frome Seattle. That´s men (Seattle) against pee-wees. :D

And injured is just Landeskog. Huge blow, but still to overcome (at least for Round 1). Another top line player leaving the team before game 3 is something else.

But in the end, it´s not the injuries that probably will get us eliminated tomorrow.

No 2nd round pick for the next 3 drafts. No 3rd for the next 2. Team still has all their 1st round picks the next 3 years. Avs are gonna need to draft well to restock the system. Gonna need young players on their ELC to help full in the next few years so they can still be contenders. Alof teams win a cup than struggle the following year. The Avs are looking to be a threat the next few years with all their big players locked up.

Problem is that the Avs are one of the absolute worst drafting teams outside top 10 picks. They haven't drafted anyone decent since 2009 outside the top 10. That's laughably bad.

My Devils were pretty bad for the longest stretch. We have been much better the past few years though.

True that, but then again, this is indirect result of us missing 2 top-six wingers. Then some bottom-sixers have to play in their place and then someone not experienced/good enough has to play on bottom six = bottom six is weaker than it would be otherwise. It affects entire line-up. Our stregth compared to Seattle is in larger amount of high-end talent, but as it is, like one third of them were not playing last night.

Just 12% of this forum picked Seattle to win in any amount of games. Hfboards is on the verge of continuing its new reputation as dead wrong on just about every topic. The perfect example of no imagination whatsoever.

Shame the votes are hidden.

I reckon I'm one of the few non Avs fans that watched a lot of their games this year. The Avs have been a big moneymaker for me on betting markets going back to the 2020-21 bubble season.

Everyone assumed because they steamrolled their way to the Cup last year they were gonna do it again. They weren't that good this year. They didn't really add any players of significance like Tampa did during their runs to the finals. Their biggest add really was just making a lateral move in goal - Keumper was allowed to leave and they replaced him with Georgiev.

I think their biggest miscalculation was assuming that some combo of Newhook and Compher would be suitable replacements for Kadri and it just hasn't.

Quote-Philipp Grubauer stopped 26 shots against his former team.

Kartye bday happens to be April 30.

Kartye became the eighth player since 1927 to notch a goal while making his NHL debut in the playoffs, according to NHL Stats. Before Kartye, the last to accomplish the feat was Makar in Game 3 of a first-round series in 2019.

What is up with Tolvanen? Has he suddenly become the most physical player on Kraken? 25 hits in the series already. 17 in the last 2.

Avs needed a 2C at the deadline, and a couple of depth scorers.

They traded for Lars Eller and Jack Johnson. No one should he surprised with the results. They’re without their entire 2nd line from last year.

What a difference a week and a half makes. Way back then I thought a Colorado sweep was the easiest series to call. Brutal luck for the Avalanche this week.

I think that was a bit of a missed call (5 minute major, probably? :sarcasm:), but I loved seeing MacKinnon's face blown up across my screen after that goal. Definitely a little bit of schadenfreude going on, over here.

I'm also a little happy for the Kraken fans. This has got to be a lot of fun for them.

You're asking alot !! Our best chance is to get college UFAs and hope they pan out. Avs sadly can't draft outside of the top 10.
