In his last 82 games, Cole Sillinger is 11-12-23.
In his last 70, he's 7-11-18.
In his last 32, he's 0-3-3.

This is a massive red flag and the organization seems to want to just...let him struggle through it, I guess?

EDIT - for comparison:
-in his first 57 NHL games, Sillinger posted 11-10-21
-in his last 71 NHL games, he's posted 7-11-18.

Or for more of a contrast...
-he posted 7-8-15 in his first 39 games
-since then he's posted 11-13-24 in his last 89 games

He’s young and out of shape (physically underdeveloped), doesn’t have great hockey IQ, and is a winger.

He’s playing like a bust this season, no question about it, this is Filatov like regression, except he’s not being sent down no matter what.

They really need to help his development or it might just get ugly

if this isn’t ‘ugly’ already then yikes

A good example of the fallacy many folks beleive that young players progress each season.
He looked like he belonged last year - but that was in a much smaller role.
This year in a bigger role he has really regressed. Not sure if it's poor conditioning (maybe an underlying ailment/injury) or just regression. If we were a competitive team he would be sent down. But due to the team SOL (sucking out loud) and the fact that the roster has a severe lack of centers here we are.

Dude hasn't scored a goal since before Thanksgiving - just 0-3-3 in his last 34 games.
That’s an ugly stat line. You know it’s bad when your left truly wondering if Sillinger will score his next goal before Foudy nets his first.

If you swapped the ice time/line mates, along with positioning (Sillinger to wing/Laine to center) and usage on the PP of Sillinger and Laine, how would each guy look on the ice or be perceived??

As much as I hate to say it, offensive skills and/or hockey sense can permanently suffer from a confidence-draining drought that lasts this long.

Not sure why the FO seems intent on not letting Silly go regain his mojo in Cleveland. He needs to develop offensively and physically. It’s not like they are competing, or need him even if they were. It needed to happen a couple months ago.

My guess is that they’ve asked him, and he’s told them he wants to get through it up here. But whether that is indeed the case, or if it isn’t, it needs to happen.

You're kidding right? To be politically incorrect for a moment that would be letting the inmates run the asylum.

If so ... proposes changes, although in his case quite strange. How about moving Laine to Marchenko's position and Kirill to Patrik? Since Kirill doesn't have such a strong slap shot, he would have to move around more and at the same time Patrik has a great wrist shot too.

I’m actually not, but that’s the only thing I could come up with to explain why he hasn’t been sent down yet. Lol I wouldn’t be really surprised if it was the case though.

this summer has been dedicated to getting to where he wants to be on the ice.

In the weight room, the goal has been to get stronger but not necessarily bigger, with an aim on being able to maintain his strength for the entirety of the grueling 82-game season. He said he also feels quicker than he did a year ago as he's gotten into skating and skill work.
I don't like that it's written as if he didn't do any specific skating training last summer... because if that's the case I'll have increasing concerns about CBJ development program and the people working there. And on the other hand, if that's not quite true then it's Svoboda's fault, that would be just a misleading piece of information.

I read it but as “he’s just now for the very first time getting into skating and skills” but rather that the prior portion of the off-season was spent on strength training and now that he’s at the point of the summer that he’s getting on this ice for skating and skills he feels quicker than at the same stage of the summer last year.

Unpopular opinion but I think Sillinger makes the team out of camp.

I think our centers will be some combo of Jenner, Fantilli, Sillinger, and Kuraly. With Roslovic, Johnson, and Voronkov filling in when necessary

If he earns it we should all be jumping for joy. Im glad the embarassment has lit a fire. Plus having Texier potentially on his line makes his job a lot easier.

If Sillinger gets back on track, Johnson/Laine are a long term center and Fantilli develops as he should that is pretty damn good depth considering how dire it looked a couple years ago

Not that I know one way or the other, but I find it easy to believe that Sillinger didn't train skating last summer and was in generally bad condition. He couldn't do a proper crossover right from the first video we saw, was carrying extra fat, etc..

Yep. He’s looking a lot thinner this summer, which is great.

Are we talking him just and just making it as zero-offense bottom 6 center like previous years, or like a real break out year with signs of top 6 potential on both ends of ice?

I can definitely see him making it as bottom 6 guy due to the lack of centers, but I don't think people want to see that again. He's a young guy so, rather he'd be at AHL at that point.

A break out year feels way too optimistic considering we saw zero offense last year. Usually you can at least see bits and pieces of the potential before a player breaks out. Summer is just not long enough to fix everything. Kakko and Kotkaniemi were in similar postions around 20y/o and, while both have been ok NHL players, it has taken both of them 2 seasons to get to a 40 point level.
