If he is so elite defensively why does he get benched at the end of games and in overtime?
Idk if he's elite defensively. But the perfetti and the second line seem to do things to not play defense really well ie: offensive zone time, maintain possession and create chances as well as getting the puck out of the dzone pretty quickly (not sure if you label this transition, or defensive play but w/e you label it they're good at it). But the Jets seem favor size and a bit more grit toward the end of games.

A couple of times per game, Perfetti does something that makes me actually say ‘wow’ out loud. He is an unbelievable talent and given a bit more time to grow and get stronger he will be a star in the league.

I posted it in a GDT but I should have posted it here:

The way Perfetti starts to have dominant playmaking shifts in the O-zone reminds me of my first ever fav. player of this franchise: Marc Savard

Interesting -- never saw much of Savard but have often though of Perfetti as in some ways a comparable to one of my fave (on-ice) players of the time we lived in TO, Dougie Gilmore, minus the lethal stickwork. Similar blend of vision and pinpoint passing, and the ability to make something from nothing by finding the highest-percentage path to goal, as with his assist on Ehlers' first goal the other night.

And while peak Gilmore is still a long ways off, Perfetti's brain and commitment make him a legit candidate as the first true 2-way top sixer the Jets have had in a long while, and maybe someday the best.

A brilliant playmaker who can also score, plays a strong possession and D game at 21 and is on his way to being able to drive a line with pretty much anyone is a heck of an asset to have with the talent the Jets have coming up.

Perfetti in some pretty good company of "slow" players, here.

We should put Perfetti-Vilardi-Niederreiter together. call it...the Drying Paint Line? I'm open to suggestions.
Those were the 3 that made the slow listed posted above - and that's based on 20MPH which isn't fast.
I guess they aren't "busy" enough :sarcasm:

One encouraging thing about his game this season is how much he has managed to avoid getting hit. Last season I seem to recall him getting absolutely leveled once every few games. It is not happening as often this season. Compared to last season he only being hit about half as much:

Seems like he has learned how to protect himself better out there. Ofcourse this has come with him hitting less but that's a tradeoff I'll take any day.

Oh man. Oh....man....you got me right in the feels. I'm probably the only Thrasher fan still kicking around this board and still following the franchise. Marc Savard is still my all time favorite Thrasher, barely ahead of Ilya. Savard was a complete player. He would drop the gloves, he could hit like his life depended on it, he was fantastic at passing and could score. Savard had 97 points with Heatley and Ilya around him. I could talk for hours about that guy....

My all time favorite player in any sport is Jeremy Roenick. Savard was the only player I've seen that actually reminded me of him and had basically the same DNA. If Perfetti plays up to that level we're talking All Star level player and likely franchise player for a decade plus.

His vision is simply fantastic. He is seeing things on the ice, under pressure, that I'm not seeing as I watch from afar.

Plus I think he still has more to give as he learns the NHL game and avoids getting into areas where his physical game is limited.
