So he might be ready for the playoffs then. That sucks ans puts pressure on Chevy now.
I think that you're being overly optimistic. Eight weeks puts the Jets well into the first round, perhaps done round one. And if it's eight weeks minimum...........🤞

There are 7 weeks left in the season. Not sure how long after the end of the season playoffs will start.

Well, the Jets play their last game on April 13 which is the last day of the regular season for all teams. Playoffs tentatively start April 17. It's not the 8 weeks for Perfetti that I'm worried about it's the 8 weeks at minimum.

Well he's also been out a week already. Not sure if that is to be taken into account in the 8 weeks or not. I think they specifically gave that timeline to account for the rest of the regular season. But you could be correct he very well may not be ready for the beginning of the playoffs. I guess it depends how his rehab goes.

That is my thinking. My guess is it never has fully healed from last year and they have been trying to manage it all this time and they have gotten to the point where they can't.

Hopefully they fix it this summer and it is resolved.

What did they mean then by saying it’s not the same injury from last year ??

Yes, rehab will be very important. If I were in Chevy's shoes, I think that I would approach it from the point of view that Perfetti is gone for the season (playoffs included) and attempt to fill his spot with with "fill in a name" before the TDL. And if Perfetti is ready to go sometime during the playoffs, assuming the Jets are there and are progressing, there's another top-sixer.

I'm guessing they meant the back injury that kept him out the end of the year and kept him off the golf course half the summer. He had two injuries last year the back (serious) and the shoulder that would have only kept him out a couple of weeks.

But we saw him aggrevate that same shoulder earlier this year that kept him out a couple of weeks again. So I'm just thinking that it has been an injury that they have tried to forego surgery on but it hasn't worked out. My guess is he gets shoulder surgery this offseason.

Yup, Chevy needs to get help illregardless of Cole's status. It was true when he was playing for us and even more so now.

i think they'll do their best to avoid surgery.

however if surgery is the best option for long-term stability but shuts him down for regular season + POs. so be it. i don't think this teams overall PO success this year hinges on him.

Well that news would piss off the good humour man. JMO, but I would look to having Cole ready for next season and if surgery is inevitable than let's get him healed up come next season. Chevy has a good group and really needs to pull a rabbit out of his hat and acquire a bonifide top6 forward. My favorite player in the league f*** I hope he heals quickly.

I'd bet our replacement for Perfetti ends up being Mason Appleton or Saku Maenalainen. Maybe Kapanen off waivers.

I have a feeling Cole will be a very fragile player thru his career, and he'll constantly have injury problems. Hope I'm wrong, but he does seem very fragile, and at a very young age, where your body should be able to take the hard hits.

So far, the data are pretty clear and you may be right.

Of course some individuals can never sustain the level of contact that happens daily in the NHL, independent of age. Others (wheeler, ovechkin, kessel, yandle, marleau) almost need to get run over by the zambonie to sustain an injury, while some players were chronically injured, and always nursing damage (forsberg, kariya, bure, neely, lafontaine). On the bright side, the latter list held some greats.

Its worth noting that playing style impacts injury history. KFC and gretz (in all but his last two years) seem to slip away from big hits.

I am not sure, he was quite durable until a year ago. It seems it's the same shoulder issue that didn't fully heal. If it gets fixed and he matures a bit I think he's smart enough to learn to stay out of harms way. But we will just have to see.

Damn, this news sucks.

I hope its not a rotor cuff labrum tear in the shoulder.
I feel like if it was a labrum tear or especially a rotator cuff he'd have known right away. He finished the NJD game, I don't think you continue playing with a torn rotator cuff. You aren't bringing your arms up with a tear.

I believe Bowness said it was unrelated to that previous injury.

I'd suggest he take the rest of the year off and work on his body - he's not built for NHL hockey at this point in his career.
Putting him back in the lineup late in the season, coming off an injury, when the game is at it's peak, would be a mistake IMO -
I get that he would be better than what we have - but the org needs to consider the kids future.
