I’m wondering the situations the other top rookies are in? Playing with Scheifele is pretty juicy (old man Wheeler and Cole are meshing well too). Not to get ahead of things but Perfetti finishing first in rookie scoring would be so cool.
He’s my 3 year olds favourite player.

Forwards from the 1/4 season NHL.com Calder tracking and their most common linemates at 5 on 5

Matty Beniers -- Jordan Eberle, Jaden Schwartz -- 1st line TOI
Matias Maccelli -- Nick Bjugstad, Lawson Crouse -- Varies quite a bit but seems to be 2nd/3rd
Shane Pinto -- Tyler Motte, Alex Debrincat, Mathieu Joseph, Drake Batherson -- Mostly 3rd line

And let's be real, the only thing Calder votes look at is Pts/GP so here's goals and points per 60 (5v5) and where that ranks on their team in parenthesis, min. 10GP.

PlayerG/60Pts/60
Perfetti0.64 (6th)2.35 (2nd)
Beniers1.2 (4th)2.99 (3rd)
Maccelli0 (n/a)1.37 (5th)
Pinto1.36 (2nd)1.59 (5th)

Reminds me of Draisatl with the slow skating but elite passing. If we get a poor man's Drai out of Perfetti that is huge for the program.

Add Logan Thompson. He will get some votes for Calder if he keeps up his steady play for Vagas

Just need Perfetti to get PP1 time and he's golden. I'm assuming Beniers is already getting that to be sitting at 2.99 p/60...?

Those numbers are strictly 5 on 5, so PP points excluded. Beniers does get PP time but Seattle splits the TOI between units pretty evenly.

Add Logan Thompson. He will get some votes for Calder if he keeps up his steady play for Vagas

Thompson - 0G/60 0Pts/60 - He's a goalie

He is the favourite for the Calder through the first quarter though. Perfetti didn't get any votes.

Our guys never get much respect for awards.

It's only a poll of NHL.com's writers, some of which might not even be PHWA members, so they might not even have votes at the end of the season. Perfetti was also sitting at 9p in 18gp at that point, and as I said above, hockey writers only care about pts/gp.

Yup..They're probably barely watching most of these guys and just filtering by ppg lol

perfetti has been good this year. i had him in 40ish-50ish pt range and believe he's playing at a 54 pt pace right now . really if he didnt hit 50 pts it'd be a bit dissapointing especially considering the names ppl often compare him too. he was always likely going to produce pretty well given he'd be playing top-6 here with some sort of combo of scheifele/pld/wheeler/ehlers or connor. i dont know if there's a rookie fwd that has a better line-mate mix right now.

i have Beniers #1 for calder, perfetti is somewhere in the mix w/ thompson, and quinn to round out the top-3. still lots of season left of course.

He's pacing 57 points. I wonder if he can get to 60. Likely going to be tough if he is only going to get token second unit pp time. Our top unit is more and more overextending their pp shifts. Not easy to score with 30 second increments of pp time when you start in your own end. Might have to wait until Ehlers is back for more even unit ice time distribution.

But he's been very good for a 20 year old rookie and keeps getting better all the time. What impresses me his play off the puck. He's pretty good at reading and reacting to the play in his own end. He's quite good at disrupting the opposition and I'm pleasantly sunrises at how strong he is in puck battles for his age.

Perfetti is currently sitting 2nd for rookie scoring, 7 points back of Berniers. I wonder if he can catch up, and if he does if he'd have a shot at the Calder. There are some good d-men and goalies too tho. But it's great Perfetti is the dude

If he has a hot final stretch then anything is possible. I think he's a shoe in for the all rookie team at this point.

Cole would likely need a bit of a cushion over Beniers. The other rookie has a bigger lead in goals. I’m not sure the writers really take enough into account (lack of PP1 time).

Considering the injury and cold stretches it seems like he definitely could catch up. I was surprised he was still so high up the list.

agreed. they'll look at pts and goals then award the winner. even if he's equal or tad ahead, i think Beniers has been overall a bit more impressive though. the stark difference b/w Beniers and Perfetti is that Beniers is actually playing C with a bunch of 2nd tier linemates (Mccann, Eberle, Burakovsky) vs W in our top-6. I also think there'll be a bit of the Seattle "turnaround" narrative whereby with his full-time insertion they went from a bottom-feeder to a ~top 5-10 team.

i have no idea how the goalies will play-out. Skinner and Thompson both around 0.915 on PO teams and apparently Owen Power has been dynamite too. i can see Perfetti anywhere from 2 to 5 at this point.

Got to be his shoulder. I know they can do surgery to fix it so it doesn't happen again but you our like 4 months or something like that guess they want him back for the playoffs or likely he wants to be back

That is my thinking. My guess is it never has fully healed from last year and they have been trying to manage it all this time and they have gotten to the point where they can't.

Hopefully they fix it this summer and it is resolved.
