Player Discussion: Cole Perfetti 10th OA pick

That's exactly what I was thinking.
[/Q!UOTE]
He can be just what they need and Connor will get plenty of passes as will anyone that's on the PP. His vision is crazy, Cole will create offensive opportunities. That's his game hopefully he can use it.

Yeah, I can't see them even considering dropping him into a playoff series regardless of how nice it would be to have him in the line up.
If he needs surgery, get it - and use the time between then and next season, to get physically prepared.
If he needs surgery I'm surprised it hasn't been done by now. No way would you want to drop the kid into the playoffs part way through after being off for close to 3 months. He is too important for our future to risk injuring again this season.

As for surgery, they might have dragged that decision out in hope that they could get him ready for the PO's without it.
I also assume they have his best interests in mind - hard to really form a view when we don't know what the injury is, how bad it is, or if was an injury that responded to others methods other than surgery.

Regardless, I'm as interested in him recovering from an injury as I am in him building up physically to better prepare him in handling NHL hockey.
I agree that he is important - and also also agree that he has been away too long to consider dropping him back in.
I won't be surprised if there is an announcement soon on him not returning TY

Did I miss what the injury actually is somewhere?

I seem to recall that last year it was a shoulder issue and this year's is unrelated to last year's?

I'm starting to sweat both his and chaz's durability a little

from bowness' conference in feb they said unrelated to last year's, and they could not pinpoint when it happened in the game against NJD, was perhaps accumulation of things. that's all that was said. finished the game too fwiw.

The only way would be if he were 100% healthy.

I'm still going with he has a shoulder separation. Those generally can be rehabbed without surgery but can take up to 12 weeks.

If he needed surgery I'd have to think it would have happened by now. I doubt they'd want to cut 3 months out of his offseason training to delay it outbof some hope he'd make the playoffs.

Yeah, who knows -
Just kicking possibilities around.
I hope there is no need for surgery - and there's no reason to think that at this point.

Like I mentioned, I'm more concerned about his prep for next season - would like to see him add strength and that might hopefully be able to help him avoid injuries to an extent.

Perfetti needs to figure out how not to get crushed every game.

Smaller skill guys are typically quick and elusive, hard to hit. That is an important skill Perfetti lacks.

I thought it was his shoulder/collarbone
i believe it was initially but apparently suffered another one while he was out. scheifele mentioned and specificed in an interview in summer that perfetti was coming off a back injury.

Whatever happened to Perfetti? Looking at stats, 8 goals in 51 games last year

Best contract in 2022-23: Cole Perfetti

You could certainly make the case for Josh Morrissey as the Jets’ best bang-for-buck contract considering he played at a star No. 1 level on a $6.25 million cap hit. Luszczyszyn’s model leaned toward Perfetti, however, because not only did he score 30 points in 51 games on his ELC, but he had stellar two-way metrics, including an excellent 1.71 goals-against-per-60-minutes rate at five-on-five, one of the best marks among Jets forwards.

Had a rough year injury-wise, once again just as he was starting to round into form, but is looking exactly like the player he was drafted to be.

Maybe he'll even get a shot at centre this season, since the Jets seem to be linked to trades for around 2/3 of their top 6.
