Confirmed Signing with Link: [COL] Tyson Barrie (4 years, $5.5M AAV)

And people were saying the Avs should never deal with Newport again. Surprised he signed for less than 6, good deal for the Avs.

Surprised he chose to sign a longer contract at all. Would have liked more term, but that's a good cap hit.

Not really...

One year Ufa and he's out

That doesn't make it a bad deal. The Avs are getting a 50 point top pairing defenseman for the next 4 years at 5.5 a year. 3 RFA years at 5.5 is a good deal for the Avs considering he already paid his dues with a bridge deal. The fact that they also got an extra UFA year out of it makes it a friggen steal.

Three years at a very fair AAV for both parties. And then the possibility for another contract, or for a big trade

How old are those contracts? of those coming up in the next year how many will be looking at big raises?
Players usually take less money for long term deals so I'm not sure what your point is.
No idea why the Avs managment and their fans can't see how valuable a 50 point RHD is in todays NHL. :shakehead

Apparently they had a better idea than you do

Fans are weird.

Player X signs a 4 year deal:
"Four years is too short of time."

Player Y signs a 7 year deal:
"Way too long, don't like that term."

This could still eventually lead to a trade, but I wouldn't do that if I was Colorado. That's a decent deal.

All depends on circumstances. Oilers fans would have preferred a 4 year deal for Milan Lucic due to his playing style and the fact that those players don't age well. Avs fans would prefer a 7 year deal for Tyson Barrie because of his age and it eating up UFA years.

It's all based on circumstance. It's not just mindless complaining.

If the Avs get one more top 4 defenseman I think their defense would shape up quite well.
