Confirmed Signing with Link: [COL] Tyson Barrie (4 years, $5.5M AAV)

Four years is a pretty long time fellas...maybe some are jaded by all these 7-8 year deals being thrown around but threats of "Oh, well I wouldn't be surprised if he tests free agency as soon as this contract is up" are kind of ridiculous sounding. Sure, he may very well but he still met the club in the middle so this notion that he is depressed in Denver and can't wait to leave IN FOUR YEARS AFTER THE CONTRACT HE JUST SIGNED is up is absurd.

A team that failed to make the playoffs 4 out of the last 5 years shouldn't be that close to the cap.

They've been this close to the cap for awhile, yet somehow all "insiders" say the Avs are a budget team.

As to missing the playoffs, they have atleast been at the mix at some points during the season. Can't say the same for other teams...

Was going to mention something like this. If it was really Barrie wanting to be a UFA it would've been a three year deal. For a PMD these next few years will likely be the best play of his career and getting him at 5.5 is simply fantastic.

The Avs have been a budget team for this exact reason. They knew they would be needing to give raises to MacKinnon, Barrie, and Pickard.

It's the same with the Jets. Scheifele and Trouba needed raises, and Chevy didn't want to be caught in a poor position like Boston was with Dougie.

I'm aware, but I wouldn't call them a budget team even the last few years. To me a budget team is Carolina or PHX.

The Avs have still been spending $$.

Until you consider the fact they failed to pay market value and only agreed to one UFA year for their top defensemen who their coach has had had publicized issues with. I'd be surprised if Barrie didn't test free agency as soon as he could afterwards.
Obviously you don't follow the avs

Great deal for the Avs and for Barrie!! Thank God its over.

:handclap:

If he stays healthy, hes worth every penny

Since these issues are "publicized" it shouldn't take you long to find a link proving this, right?

By the way, the article from Stauffer was a misquote on his part. Terry Frei said that he thinks Barrie is better suited as a number 5 and Stauffer mistakenly thought he said that Roy sees barrie as a number 5. So that article obviously doesn't count. But since the issues are so publicized you should have no problem finding many more articles.

You do realize the Avs had to offer 5.5x4 for Barrie to accept it, right?

I mean come on guys. Don't double down now. Take your helping of crown or just bow out quietly.
Yes. Barrie elected arbitration so the Avs had the choice between one and two years. They low balled him at $4m & $4.25M over two years so Barrie went one at 6.
Not saying this is a bad deal for either side. Just that the Av's were being ***** from the start and this could have been avoided. Barrie took a little less money for longer stability. Avs are gambling that he's undervalued(and probably will be) in a couple years

You know how Arb works right.....
This wasn't an arb's decision and usually the sides are in the ballpark(Avs weren't in my opinion). I thought Barrie would get 5.5 on a two year and was fair to ask for 6m on a one year

Good deal, I would have gone with more years but this is still solid because the caphit would be much higher on a 5+ year deal.

Glad Leafs fans can stop with the Barrie to Toronto threads.
