would it shock anyone if he agrees to a 2 year deal but then is traded?

^^Like him or hate him but Stauffer does have sources around the league. He has connections at numerous agencies. He has GMs on his show all the time from around the league (just in July he's had Chayka, Nill, Holland and Chia). So a random poster on HF that has zero connections saying Stauffer has no connections with the Avs is kind of funny. How would you even know? Do you have any sources to say he doesn't?

How do I know? Because Bob Stauffer has never broken or even come remotely close to breaking anything Avs related. Now all of a sudden he is in the know? The only reason Stauffer is speculating anything is because he's employed by the Oilers and the Oilers have let it be known that they're interested in Tyson Barrie. That's it.

As I said, he definitely has sources around the league. But when the likes of Bob McKenzie, Elliotte Friedman, and Pierre LeBrun can't pry anything out of Colorado and are forced to use sources from other teams who are dealing with Colorado, it's VERY unlikely that Stauffer has any sources in Colorado. And no, people like Adrian Dater, Mike Chambers, and Terry Frei are not legitimate sources because the Avalanche distance themselves from those three as much as possible even though they work for, or used to work for in the case of Dater, the Denver Post.

What happens if barrie refuses to sign if he doesn't like the deal proposed from the arbitration hearing?

If Barrie "doesn't like" the arb number, he really has no leverage. He's a professional athlete not a child, so I think this is a very unlikely scenario. Then again, never know. Stranger things have happened.

If it's binding arbitration I would assume that he'd have no choice but to accept it unless he goes to the KHL. Even if he did that he'd owe Colorado 2 seasons when/if he came back. Seeing as most North American born players given the choice would sooner play in the NHL that would't be much leverage for Barrie IMO.

Does anybody actually think $5.25m for two years would be THAT offensive?

But if so, I suppose he could go to the KHL for the rest of his career. I'd say it's unlikely.

Can he force a trade?

oh c'mon man. I know the possibility of trading for Barrie is appealing so we want him on the market, but it's pretty clear he's staying in Colorado. He doesn't hate it there; he just wants money. Sakic is putting off his final decision with him a year or two, and it's probably two.

Not that I think this is likely, but he becomes UFA at age 27 even if he doesn't play for COL again.

Arbitration is binding. He'd have a two year contract to come back to to fulfill. The years on that contract aren't going to start ticking away if he's overseas.

Proof? Vladimir Sobotka. He's 29, still owes the Blues one year from a contract awarded from arbitration.

I don't think that he does. Arb is binding. It's a contract. The next two seasons he plays in the NHL will be in Colorado unless he's traded.

And plus, he's getting minimum $4m. Realistically, he's getting over $5m. The $1m split isn't enough to send a Canadian to the KHL. This, "what if he doesn't want to" stuff is silly.

I don't think it's an offensive offer. It's just a question because I don't know all the rules for arbitration. I would rather ask then assume or just be curious.

Not silly Ryan Smyth was traded over less than half a million.

Buffalo would welcome him like ROR before him. Granted it would be rather funny if he comes here

I think it's more likely the Avs don't like the arbitration decision and want to trade him away, rather than Barrie not being happy and wanting to force a trade. Neither will happen, but regardless I expect Barrie to win big time.

Why would they have any problem paying him anything awarded in the arbitration? It's not a figure that's a "win" for Barrie either. There's no issue with the RFA years, it's the UFA years. Barrie isn't going to get paid like a UFA unless he signs a long term contract.

Once the decision comes down tomorrow, I imagine a lot of dominos will fall/sign within a week (Trouba, Risto, Ceci, Lindholm)
