Nelson is really good. He makes the Avs better right now. They’ve got a good shot at the Cup adding him.
plus, prospects are always a crapshoot. how long will it take them to develop, can they adjust to the big boy game, will they get injured

take the bird in hand, we'll figure out tomorrow when it gets here

Nelson doesn't seem to me to be a player that's going to want a 5 or 7 year at his age. I'm thinking 3 years on a contending team and he'll sign. If the Avs sign him for 3/21 to be their 2nd line center behind Mackinnon and to be able to play with his old pal Toews and his partner Makar I think he'd be willing to stay.

I don't think 3/7 on the Avs is a big deal and won't go bad. Anything past that in term or higher in $ is a risk.

Colorado's got great weed so he should be highly satisified

Disappointed there wasn’t a better offer out there. 2025 1st would have been preferred.

Not crazy about Ritchie. Don’t get the Kylinton add either.

Wanted Nelson to the jets but love the fit for the Avs. Hope they win the cup
I rather have a 1st in 2026 then 2025 especially since it's going to be a lower pick.

I believe Brock Nelson is a great pickup and perhaps the best player that has been traded so far at the trade deadline

Good pick up by AVS

Nice the conditional picks most likely a late 1st round and 3rd Kylington is another de Hann a plug for the Avs plus the NYI retained half the salary.

nelson is just a very very good player, smart, great size, sneaky skater and a real nice wrister. Guy potted 30 big ones for three years in a row and on pace this year for another 30 on a real weak NYI squad. He steps up in the post season too. Avs got a good one, hope he helps lead them to a cup. Isles got what they wanted. win win for all

Yeah sure, ok, big player scores big goals. But who on this roster is going to provide the tiny goals?!

He’d probably take 25M in totality over 4 years based off of this report. That would bring his career earnings in right at 75M per, great career for him if he can get that 25M.

IDK. If Brock turned down 3 x $7.5+ ("slightly more than $7.5" was the quote), then we're talking about basically $23M over 3 years. So $25M over 4 years would mean he'd be getting an extra $2M for a 4th year beyond the Isles' 3 year offer. If he likes COL and vice-versa, then maybe 4 x $7.5M gets it done ($30M total).

1st, prospect, conditional pick. Seems about right depending on how you view Ritchie, who can turn this from what looks to be fair value to amazing value for the Islanders. We'll have to wait on that.

Trotz wanted to keep Leddy. That was the word at the time. After a year of Trotz as a GM, maybe it makes more sense now taking his personnel judgment into account. imo it was a bad move then, and knowable. NYI made a mistake, and should have found a way to dump Leddy. And from the point of view of the GM you take the perspective of the coach who was considered one of the best if not *the* best coach in hockey at the time.
Let’s not forget that immediately after the trade we made the conference finals again, and Leddy had a big part in that. We definitely felt his loss after.

I like Drouin there as a passer to the 2 shooters, and that is still a good 2way line

I like the flexibility for match ups and going with whatever is working at the time. I can’t see retaining Mitts if the Avs are all in. Avs could use 2/3RD or 3C or another forward like Tuch. That’d make them a very strong SCF contender.

Because at the time of that trade, Toews was a promising but frustrating young dman, not a top pairing dman in his prime.
Toews was frustrating?... For a young defenseman at the time, he brought a lot more positives than negatives, and he was already Leddy's equal during his last season with the Isles in 2019-20. Lamoriello played his cards wrong.
