I'd like to see some more in depth interviews on the mentors trip.

Something beyond this person drove me to practice and games a lot. Maybe something the mentor said that stuck with them or something the mentor observed in the mentee at a young age.

Knowingly painting with a broad brush — how many NHL players actually have an interesting background? Very, very rarely do you hear anything other than variations on “we played hockey in the living room as toddlers, mom wasn’t a fan lol” and “we sure went to a lot of 5am practices, thanks dad” and “you get good in a hurry when you play against your big brother”.

There’s a painful lack of character in the league. It’s one of the things that separates the NHL from the other big leagues.

lol - kind of sounds like you and the canes, man.

(not saying you should - lots of us just can't quit them. insert brokeback mountain pic with the sightless eye on ledger's head, and 'hf26' written in gyllenahall's.)
Well I never said I'm going to "quit", I'm just kinda checked out due to various factors making it hard/expensive to be as into them as I once was.

I mean how interesting a life could any of them possibly have prior to going in the league with the absolutely ruthless youth sports machine cycling them towards the league with endless lengthy travel, year round camps and practices, etc. I'll bet not a damn one of their parents has anything interesting to say about their lives either.

Many such cases! A have a friend who has spent the last 3 thanksgivings in Tampa due to the youth hockey tournament dragging everyone across the country for it over the holidays. Other friends hamstrung by ridiculous travel for various sports right on down to Irish Dancing FFS.

Exactly.

Here’s a wild and horrifying stat:

Svech, Necas, Jarvis, Aho and Rantanen, the 1st unit full-timers, have combined for 26 PPGs. Blake and Gostisbehere, the part-timers, have scored 7.

The rest of the roster has 2 combined.

The 2nd unit is bad. Really bad. Really, really bad.

Maybe not to the same extent, but that’s much closer to the way most teams run their PP units. PP2 is more of an afterthought in most cases. We’re not used to that because of the whole “don’t number your lines” phenomenon.

Lets f***ing go! 😤

I hope he gets more than 6 minutes.....play the kid; sure he will make mistakes but it's development time.

btw: either Stilman still hurt from that inner mouth cuts or Tulsky took to heart the question from the press conference on whether he was going to promote some young players such as Morrow and Nadeau and give them playing time this season?

If I'm Rod, I'm giving him first-pair minutes. Big responsibility yes, but Burns sucks and frankly the kid needs to learn.

Of course if I was also Rod I'd tell Jeff Daniels "thanks for your service but I'm going in a different direction", but that's a discussion for another day. Possibly later today in the GDT.
