As a NYI I've never been sold on Ritchie as a top prospect, but that's a question of how Ritchie has been rated relative to others. I see him as essentially at Danny Nelson levels, not above it. But still, very nice to have a couple of big C prospects like them in the system.

And maybe NYI keeps the 2026/2027 pick, or uses it to move up in the draft...

Timing free agency for 34 years old is going to be the new trend with older NHLers.

Brock Nelson probably looked at the Stamkos, Tanev, and Marchessault contracts and figured he could get something similar in terms of a big money team signing him to a contract that is destined for LTIR. Basically, he gets his 3 year contract with another 3 fake years tacked on to the end, and he isn't subject to the 35+ rules.

Brock was something of a disappointment when he signed the 6x6 deal that got him here (amusing commentary below). I don’t think this was some master plan on his part.

As a Generals season ticket holder, I can tell you the biggest issue with Oshawa this year has been the coaching. Ritchie has new line mates literally every single game. I can assure you that nothing has regressed with his game in terms of effort or attitude.

Derek Laxdal got an AHL job very late in the summer, and it left Oshawa scrambling. They promoted an assistant to HC and then fired him after only 30 games - - with the team in first place.

They hired former minor league journeyman Brad Malone to be the HC, even the Malone had never coached a game at any level.
Makes sense now why they traded him knowing Avalanche legend Brad ****ing Malone was now in charge of his development.

Now that Brock went to Colorado, what number is he wearing since Nate stole his and the reverse is being held hostage by Landeskog.

Gotta think Nelson was told that there were 3-5 deals on the table and he got to choose where he goes.

Because this return (in this wild market) was less than what the Islanders paid for Horvat several seasons ago and many were assuming that exactly that deal was going to be the bare minimum for Nelson this spring.

so Lamoriello made a favor for Nelson, but why?

We're a wild card team making moves like we're still a cup-contender.

Won in 2022 with an absolutely loaded team, Bednar is known for not being a coach who adjusts yet we're mortgaging the future again? I can understand Tampa being all-in, they have a good defense and a great coach. We play guys like Keaton Middleton and Ryan Lindgren on defense while being coached by Bednar.

lol Ritchie definitely has some 2nd line upside but so did Newhook and Jost. I'd argue he's about as likely to hit that upside as they were. I hope I'm wrong though, he seems like a good kid.

Good trade for both sides. Avs have to go for it every year and this is definitely going for it.

As an Islanders fan I like it. Love Nelson but at this point we need to try something different. Hopefully we can trade Palmerri as well and retool int he summer.

I like the fact it's a 26/27 pick because that allows us to see what is out there in free agency first and if we can't make any big signings we can then use the first rounders to try make a deal

Good player but Avs paid a big price to get a rental

Maybe payback for Toews. lol

So much for the Wild fans that kept bad-mouthing him and insisting the max return was a 1st and mediocre prospect, or a 2nd and a decent prospect for a 'rental' . . . and that they'd just pick him up in the summer. At least that last one is still a possibility.

Of course, if they can't sign him, the tone will change to "well, we really didn't want him anyhow"

As a reminder, Horvat cost the NYI a young middle six forward, one of the NYI top prospects who was enjoying a solid rookie AHL season, and a 1st rounder.

At the end of the day, just going to have to assume that the NYI staff is also very high on Ritchie's possibilities.

Certainly hope they are right because Lou definitely had to get this deal right and Ritchie is the only warm body coming back.
Beau was a cap dump, not a young middle six forward.

Great trade by the Islanders!

But I understand it for Colorado. They fleeced Carolina in the Rantanen deal, so they have assets to spare, plus I feel Brock is underrated anyways, he'll be great in Colorado

Wild fans are living off a storied past of many cup runs that they know they can easily get players for lowball deals.

Beau was a cap dump, not a young middle six forward.

My bad for using the word "young".

I was thinking "mid-20s" and should have written that.

As for middle six, when Beau was moved, he was 25 and already had this resume:

That's a middle six forward in everbody's book.

Now back to the regularly scheduled programming.

Jesus Christ. We have two of the best players in the world in their prime and healthy and now a damn good top 6 and still a damn good top 4 D.

And there is still today to even improve this team even further.

Party hard, deal with the fallout later.

One has to view it as it was seen when it went down, not based on what Beau and Raty have done since.
as the post above you said , Beau was a cap dump and Raty was having a mediocre season in the AHL after a very strong draft plus 1 season in Europe . looks like Lou sold high on him

no idea how any Islander fan can shit on this return , a solid prospect and a 1st is an excellent return
