NHL ready as what? A bad 3rd liner? He looked bad in the stints he's gotten.

I said close to it, as in he'll be NHL ready in a year or two and providing value on an cheap RFA deal.

And I think as a prospect he is worth more than the Avs next 4 1sts put together, so I don't get why they moved him.

Because typically you don't stay at the same production when you're a full year older.... that's usually a bad sign
Fine but I take it you haven't seen him play much and need to look past the stat sheet.
Bednar's biggest complaint of Ritchie was his defensive play. Since he's come back he plays more of a two way game, back checks very well and also also grown tougher which actually scares some fans sometimes that he should leave the toughness to the guys in that role but he's definitely grown into a more complete player. A true playmaker.

He's gonna be a great 2C in New York next year and will get lots of minutes at a young age in the next level.

Sad but true, most players picked between 23-32 are not in the NHL ten years later. I did a sample recently (in the Tampa trade thread) and 20/30 picks didn't make it. The average value of one of those picks is a fraction of Calum Ritchie.

You really should know this, the Avs of course haven't drafted anyone good outside of top ten picks ... since 2009!

We’ll, they went for it….. That’s all you can really say.

In Colorado’s corner on this one, Calum Ritchie isn’t what he appears. At least to many scouts. Most of his junior success has come in the way you see overagers put up big numbers. He picks on kids not as physically mature as he is. World Juniors proved that. It’s why you always have to be careful with junior stats.

So they probably didn’t give up as much as some people might think.

We are in "Win-Now"-Modus and dont give a f*** about those futures 1sts and Ritchie. Thats why. :D

I really liked what Brisebois said this week about going "all in".... Tampa doesnt mess around either.

When you have 2 of the best players in the world in their prime, you go "all in". Simple as that.

Even with the valid concerns of Ritchie as a prospect, it’s still a great return for Nelson. Especially likely being a rental.

There’s been other players with the same concerns scouts have about Ritchie, who’ve gone on to great NHL career. By no means is he a horrible prospect. He’s just not viewed like some fans would like to think he is.

Could only find thinly veiled references in the Brock price going up thread. Official trade deserves it's own thread - especially considering there's a thread for Kylington going to Ducks.

Gotta think Nelson was told that there were 3-5 deals on the table and he got to choose where he goes.

Because this return (in this wild market) was less than what the Islanders paid for Horvat several seasons ago and many were assuming that exactly that deal was going to be the bare minimum for Nelson this spring.

As a reminder, Horvat cost the NYI a young middle six forward, one of the NYI top prospects who was enjoying a solid rookie AHL season, and a 1st rounder.

At the end of the day, just going to have to assume that the NYI staff is also very high on Ritchie's possibilities.

Certainly hope they are right because Lou definitely had to get this deal right and Ritchie is the only warm body coming back.
