MacDonald has outplayed Graves though. So unless that changes, I have a hard time seeing Bednar scratching MacDonald in favor of Graves.

The only reason would be because EJ is out and Graves was the only big man defender that can also PK, but that's no longer the case with Nemeth.

This will help Toews and G not have to play 30 minutes a night, he will definitely take the heavy PK minutes as that's his bread and butter.

Also, that 4th rd pick is irrelevant, who are we gonna draft with that, another Pepin/Kvaca/Magyar level guy, or at best Weiss/Henry? I'll take my chances.

You say that, but I think Byram is more susceptible in losing his position; someone who's been constantly injured and just got covid. He's going to have to redo any work that he's already accomplished since he's going to lose a lot by fatigue and potential lack of game shape from covid.

We don't know if Byram is sick or simply tested positive. Let's see where he's at when he returns.

No. We were already short on Dmen after trading Zadorov and Cole. McDonald has played well. As as Renouf when he has been in. But we need a guy who plays more than 5-6 minutes a night.

You do realize that Makar is our best dman by quite a bit, and arguably one of the best in the world not a 2nd pairing RD behind Girard, right?

The only reason he is playing with Graves right now, is because he is the only person remotely capable of babysitting Graves. Graves is mediocre but looks passible when paired with Makar.

The best possible pairings moving forward when everyone is healthy is:

Toews-Makar (they were utterly dominant at the beginning of the season, we would actually have a true 1st pairing)
Byram-Girard
Graves-Nemeth (play about 13-15 mins and PK)

I know +/- is a kinda useless stat, but the fact he’s only a -1 on that team is pretty impressive. But I’ve seen people saying he’s been solid and others say he’s struggling.
