I just noticed that the only time Nemeth has had a positive +- was the two years that he was with the Avs.
Hopefully, if he's on a pairing with one of the four horsemen, he finds them and doesn't resort to icing so much.
*LMFAO* That's because you are my burner account. The one I don't use when I'm high or drunk or fighting cancer.I think it's cool with Nemeth, Landeskog and also Landeskog's father Tony one of the coaches.

The Avs made the playoffs both years he was with us.Nemeth was a bright spot on this team for me for a couple of years. He played on some shit teams for us. I truly wished him better than the Red Wings as a destination when he left via FA. I'm glad to have him back in a supporting role as we make this run. It really is kinda cool to see a guy I really liked (even if he wasn't a star) for a few years make his way back to the team in a support position for a run. That being said, I'm not a huge fan of getting the boys back together (although free agent frenzy in February 2008 made me giddy as f*** even though asset management folks lost their shit over potentially losing Duchene after the fact.
In this case, it's a low cost move and one I think will be very viewed as extremely shrewd. Nemeth has the ability to play alongside every single d-man on the team. I don't expect to see him be a regular on anything other than the 3rd pairing and think that is where he will play for the most part. But...he will be an option for defensive zone draws in tight games late. I wouldn't be surprised to see him take to the ice with one of the big 3 in those situations. He's reliable enough that Bednar can throw him out to help manage the minutes on the big three and not really worry about it. He's going to make a lot of friends on this team just because he's steady. I always viewed him as a income-challenged person's version of EJ. Fairly well sized, not quite as mobile but really steady and decent on the PK. The question used to be, does his tendency to ice the puck have a worse impact on the PK than EJ's constant sliding around on the ice and getting out of position for committing too soon to the move? With EJ likely done for the season, this really is a low-key home-run signing. Will have a much bigger impact that most will see at first blush. He's just a perfect utility depth d-man who is good on the PK but tends to ice the puck a bit too easily especially late in games.
The comments in the the Red Wings thread is a bit funny.
Good thing: Everybody really like how he played last season.
Bad thing: He hasn't been good this season (especially not now when traded to the Avs).
One thing is for sure: It's not easy to judge players in Detroit right now, the entire team has been struggling and hockey is a team sport after all, I am not overly concerned. I think he has a baby and a wife now, perhaps his life is slightly more stressful (hopefully in a good way).
Nemeth is a defensive stay at home type of defenseman (ok, most of the times anyway) and it's convenient blaming these kind of players not contributing much in scoring, it's common.
We will see how it works out. Hopefully Nemeth can keep up with the speed in this world class "dream team", that's my only concern, he isn't the fastest player out there... ;-) He is a strong guy though adding some physical presence which isn't a bad thing. Finally, perhaps one of the better PK players in hockey when playing up to his potential.
Nemeth is a junior world champion (one of the mvp's himself, his play leading up to Zibanejad's goal), AHL champion (scoring the winning goal) and we will see what happens now.
He has a good natural winner instinct but a bit too relaxed in general in unimportant games (it seems). Wish he could show his grit more often, not only in the finals. I believe he is the kind of player growing with a really tough coach. He isn't a leader but a loyal good teammate.
Johnson/Foote is a more fitting comparison style-wise.2001 D vs today
Blake / Toews
Foote / Girard
Borque / Makar
Miller / Byram
Klem / Nemeth
DeVries / Graves
Skoula / MacDonald
EJ ?
Other than leadership (without EJ), I think I like this D is more finesse but not nearly has physical. I think this D is more cerebral and way faster. It is different but comparable.
Cup contending D? Got a good shot...
No, I didn't try to line them up as comparable.
With EJ...man, I love it.
2001 more proven
Aaron Miller went to LA in the Blake deal, can't really have both on the 2001 roster
I want to see Makar paired with Byram. Having a competent Dman to pass with at the point makes it easier to maintain dominance in the OZ to wear opponents down and create openings. Once the puck cycles over to Graves or Nemeth plays will inevitablu die on their stick or get aimlessly launched on goal to give up possession.Wonder if we will see Nemeth tried with Makar. I wouldn’t hate it, other than Makar is always out with the first line and Nemeth won’t do much in the offensive zone.
Would be nice to see Makar be able to jump up into the play without seeing Ryan Graves already in front of him.
As a then employee of the team Nemeth scored that Calder Cup clinching goal on, I’ve asked that nobody ever bring it up on here again. Thanks. I watched that goal from the Zamboni gate. And on Hutch at that. f***ing NemoThe comments in the the Red Wings thread is a bit funny.

I agree, it’s just hard to know how Byram will be when he comes back from Covid/Concussion. I imagine he’ll be starting at 16 minutes a night on the 3rd pair.I want to see Makar paired with Byram. Yes he’s Landy’s best friend.Wait, is that the same Erik Gustafsson currently playing for the Canadiens?
