Or the Stars bring back Johansen from the dead only to be swept. 😉

The fact that you have this reply suggests you probably still have a Duchene jersey in your closet. Or is that a Rodrigues jersey? It’s hard to tell. 9 has been passed around...kind of like the fake cowboy Duchene.
I just have had my fair share of disappointments when it comes to teams in hockey I root for. You need to make two statements so you dont jinx yourself 😅

And I hate Matt for what he did.. Glad he wasnt on the cup team

A reunion!

I mean, that's pretty classy, but yes.
No doubt, that’s awesome servicing from that pro shop.

Just the fact that they need to offer that must be damn depressing.

It legitimately tanked Carolinas season. They’re in a crazy healthy spot either way, but I thought the Guentzel situation was bad. This one was so much worse.

It handcuffed their cap because it took so long to find a deal too.

Mikko taking so long to make a decision really screwed them IMO. With more time they could have easily turned one or both of those 1st round picks into something really good which would have keep them as a contender this season. Now it will be very difficult for them to make it far in the East.

After seeing/hearing everything that has gone on with the Mikko situation for the past while here is what I strongly believe happened.

There were strong reports about Carolina approaching the Avs during the offseason regarding Mikko but at the time Necas hadn't really broken out yet. Then Necas had a very strong start of the season which made him a lot more appealing to them especially if they were geting Drury as well. From that point on I believe the Avs had no longer any intentions of re-signing Mikko because they knew it would take 12M+. His new contract would have destroyed our depth completely starting as early as next season so really giving us only one shot at the Cup. Getting Necas at 6.5M was allowing them to get a 2C and most likely have at least two shots at the Cup.

They had a problem: how do you move Mikko without looking like you don't want him. Well you negotiate as normal and then you offer a final offer that you are absolutely certain he will counter-offer. They were convinced Mikko's camp would look at that 11.75M final offer as a negotiating tactic and counter-offer with something at 12M+. When they did they used the opportunity to trade him making it look like Mikko's demand was too much for them. They even warned him he could end up being traded so they had set the table for it.

I believe thay had no intentions of paying him more than 11M.

How is it even close to a Duchene situation? Duchene forced his way out of Colorado, Mikko didn't. Not even remotely close.

To me, Mikko is just another Stars player now, so f*** him. Duchene is one of the all time cancers of this franchise, f*** him 10x more.
How can you say he didn’t force himself out? The deal for 500k less aav was on the table to sign and he walked. Short of requesting a trade that’s as close to forcing your way out as you can get.

Because, at that time, Rantanen and his agent were obviously still looking for that bigger deal in Colorado. They were initially looking for 13M with Dallas as well, and the deal almost fell through because of that.

To say cling on to the fact that Rantanen signed for 250k more in Dallas than what was offered in Colorado, is extremely disingenuous. At the time, Rantanen was probably looking for much more money. He didn't choose between 11.75 in Colorado and 12M in Dallas.

Starting at a high number for negotiation and sticking with it does not equal requesting a trade. He may have influenced the Avs into thinking they needed to move him, but he did not "force" a trade.

Mikko said in his interview with Scott Oake he knew about a week ago that he wasn't signing in Carolina.

The onus is on the Hurricanes if he told them a week ago. If he knew and simply didn't say, then yes that is shady stuff.
