Lots riding on Mitts there to get his head out his ass but not terrible if he manages to do so
And if Mitts continues to struggle and drag the 2nd line down with Necas on it, this trade will look even worse. I wouldn’t be so upset about trading Mikko if we filled the necessary holes. Like Mikko for a legit 2C and at least on solid d-man which we need badly. Instead we got a less productive winger and a bottom 6 forward which we weren’t starving for.

We are starving for a 2C and couple of good d-men. I’m sorry I’m so down on this trade. Mikko is a hall of famer, you simply don’t trade this players, yet we did and the return is meh…

Don't underestimate a motivated Mikko Rantanen. It became pretty clear complacency got the best of him this season, somehow, in a contract year. Mikko was the best player in the league when MacK was out for that stretch a couple seasons ago. He has it in him when he tries hard enough.
Yeah the fact that Mikko was playing like this in a contract year is wild. Sure his point totals are great, but he was playing with the laziness you’d expect from a guy who JUST signed a new deal.

So...Lines now with the trade (incl Wood and Nuke)

Drouin - Mack - Nuke
Lehk - Mitts - Necas
Colton - Drury - LOC
Wood - Kelly - Kivi

Add 92.

Yeah, Mack will look over and see Necas actually enter the zone with him.

If Necas is good on the rush, and almost as fast, yeah there is definitely going to be an adjustment. Hopefully a good one.

MacK is also going to have to get used to Necas feeding him the puck when he goes into the corner and actually retrieves it, instead of tripping over an unseen cable

To be fair, Mikko feasted a lot on empty net and PP points. His 5v5 play was good, but underwhelming compared to 2018 to 2022 seasons.

WTAF am I witness to here? This cannot be real - it's some kind of nightmare, that I honestly hope I'll wake to and hasn't occurred. I'm both beyond and lost for wards. I'm really, really going to be negative here, and explode, so best I take a break. ^&%$^%#$ !

EDIT: Why have Necas AND Mitts?
Does cmac know Nuke is injured?

In the words of the oracle..

Have a cookie, you feel right as rain in a minute brother

Imagine thinking last year after game 4 against Dallas that Val Nichushkin would be an Av longer than Mikko Rantanen.

Wild.

My guess for lines if the players are here tomorrow:

Lehkonen - MacKinnon - Drouin
Colton - Mittelstadt - Necas
Kiviranta - Drury - O'Connor
Ivan - Kelly - Parssinen/Wagner/whoever the f*** feels like skating for 4 minutes

Oh man, I hope this trade wasn’t about freeing up a mill so they can bring Landy and make the cap work. We just can’t go to playoffs with de Haan, Malinski, Middleton bottom pairings, and struggling Mittelstadt.

f*** it. It’s Friday and I’m gonna drink and not let this ruin the night.

Here's the thing, as much as I loved Mikko over the years, loved watching him develop and win a Cup, my attitude towards him shifted around the time of the Ismo call-out
I feel like that was when he became the frustrating, inconsistent effort player he is now. I don't think you can have that sort of player in your leadership group, especially without Landy around
It just seemed like he stopped giving a f*** and his time unfortunately had to come to an end

Bednar is next on the "his time is up" docket but they won't replace him until the summer anyway

I mean, yeah. When you consider Mikko's contract status and Nuke trade-ability dropping through the floor. It's not exactly shocking.

I'm more shocked cMac had the balls to do what was needed. Mikko making 14 million in Colorado would have been a disaster.
