This really isn't a bad trade, shocking absolutely, but on paper this is about as good as it was going to get for Rantanen as a rental.

What an end of an era, and I mean most of us expected him to be gone next season with his likely ask anyways.

Rantanen is extremely talented but I do see his production dropping maybe 15-20 points without Makar/Mackinnon. I could also see Necas getting an extra 15-20 playing with this team.

Hope there's more coming, there kind of has to be right?

Mikko will do fine with Aho but I will be watching his production for a regress after this.
Don't underestimate a motivated Mikko Rantanen. It became pretty clear complacency got the best of him this season, somehow, in a contract year. Mikko was the best player in the league when MacK was out for that stretch a couple seasons ago. He has it in him when he tries hard enough.

He’s no where near the goal scorer Mikko is. Mack loves passing the puck a lot more now days, I’m not sure how many of those passes Necas is gonna capitalize on. It’s a downgrade no matter how you look at it

Mack had 51 goals last year, and Necas can actually arrive with him on occasion.

One of the greatest Avs to dawn the burgundy and blue. All the guy did was produce.

The return feels underwhelming, but I guess you have to take into account Mikko is a pending UFA.

Lost a huge piece here. Interested to see how the locker room responds to this.

Necas will thrive imo. Guy is perfect for Avs hockey. Not as talented as Mikko, but he’ll be a top-liner here. He’s 11th in league scoring and is probably about to flank Nathan MacKinnon.

Drury adds to the bottom-6. Hopefully the picks are used as ammunition for the deadline.

Gabe Landeskog is the X factor for this team, this season. I think it would provide a real boost to the locker room, if he returned.

They have to find some kind of health to have a chance.

He has it in him but he will be given rest of his career contract next summer. Usually there's a dip after that.

What's going to be interesting to me is seeing the fit with MacKinnon.

For seemingly the last decade - minus the random couple of weeks when Joonas Donskoi was covering for injuries - Nathan MacKinnon has played with left-handed linemates. Landeskog, Rantanen, Nichushkin, Lehkonen, Drouin, Colton, Calvert, Kadri, etc.

There is 100% going to be a feeling out period between he and Necas. He's not used to having a right-shot linemate.
