Confirmed with Link: [COL, CAR, CHI] Rantanen-Hall to CAR, Necas-Drury-25 2nd-26 4th to COL, Chi 25 3rd to Chi (Ret 50% on Mikko)

Here's what's going to happen :

Mikko will do very well in Carolina. He's certainly capable as we've all seen but in my opinion had become complacent with the Avs. Out of necessity to 'be the man', he'll do well for the Hurricanes. Then he'll sign his big extension and I think he'll be pretty good in his first full season with Carolina.

After that, all bets are off - I'm not certain that the bad habits that we've seen in his play the last year and a half won't come creeping back into his game.

Exactly. That's how I see it too. It might pay off for them if they win one Stanley cup but then he becomes too happy to score those points but not do much else.

Mack isn't happy about the trade. You can hear it in his voice and the way he's answering these questions.

No one on the team knew anything. They were all shocked.
Of course he isn't, how could he be? You win a Cup with any guy and you are going to be shaken up to loose him. But MacK more than anyone knows this is a business and could for certain see the issues with the contract, it's just these guys like to only think about that stuff in the off-season

Bedsy sounds down in the dumps over the trade as well. Sounds like a broken man. Looks disheveled. 5 o'clock shadow isn't something I ever recall him sporting before.

He lost a player who was playing almost half a game. Of course he is sad. His system of overplaying top guys isn't as effective anymore when one is gone. :)

Hurricanes hold preliminary extension talks with Rantanen

Jesus Christ.

I just lost respect for MacKinnon.

Grow the f*** up.

This is part of the business.
Lol, what? "Grow up"?

Jesus man one of his closest and most skilled teammates just got traded like 18 hours ago.

He even acknowledged it was the business side and said he wants everyone to get paid. He essentially just said he's sad to be losing a close friend. You lost respect for him over that? It doesn't take much for you.

His friend Drouin didn't get "paid" yet he stick around.

If there's a will, there's a way. Mikko had no will to stay.

You’re right, it doesn’t take much.

You can go cry in the shower away from the media. You don’t need to moan about it for an hour in front of the media.

This is our best player sounding like his boyhood dog just died.

“Yeah, obviously it’s always tough to lose a great player and friend like Mikko, but this is a business and I’m really excited about the guys we’ve added to our lineup.”

Done, that’s it.

Nobody needs to know they spent 20 minutes on the phone crying with each other.

I really don’t find anything wrong with what Nate said there. It was a shock for everyone. Whatever some folks here may think of Mikko, he’s a big superstar, top 10 player in the NHL, and probably a future hall of famer, and he was traded mid season while the team is in the battle to position themselves for the playoffs. Not to mention Mikko is a good person and was close friends with Nate and others on the team
