Inb4 more Nucks fans come in and say"I thought Byram > EP or Byram > Hughes". I don't think a single Avs fan would've traded him after watching that cup run. Yes he was that good. Since then he has been trending down which makes sense for the Avs to move him for a desperate need in a young #2C.

Wow! I love a hockey trade. I'm very sad to lose Casey. He's really turned into a nice 2-way player. But this deal could turn into a win/win. BUF has so many forward prospects in the system, so a F for D deal makes sense, and Byram should fit nicely on the Sabres.

I hope Dahlin isn't too upset about this -- he's best buddies with Casey

Interesting deal. Both players come with some risk. Can Mittelstadt fit into a system with defensive accountability and adjust to Mackinnon getting the Ozone starts instead of him? Can Byram stay healthy and grow into his potential? He's currently a 4-5 type defenseman, but there's top pairing upside.

Nah. This is a Sabres L. Byram is behind Dahlin and Power in Buffalo, and Mittelstadt was essentially our only good two-way forward and one of very few natural centers in our organization. Oh and we’re trading a guy who finally developed into the player we hoped for for a guy whose development has stagnated, so that’s great too. This trade f***ing blows for Buffalo.

I wanna be more optimistic, but mostly this. We have 3 young D largely of similar molds- cool, but 2 of ‘em haven’t panned out yet. That’s just a lot of youth for your top 3. Meanwhile Cozens and Thompson took steps back after big deals, I think they’ll bounce back fine, but they’re also both somewhat inconsistent. Mitts has just gotten better the past 1.5+ seasons, he grinder through everything- if there was any chance of him re-signing I’d hope we tried for that. Even were that not an option I just dunno about Byram, but we’ll see.

I don't get this from the Sabres perspective. Mittelstadt has been trending upwards in the last few years and will probably be a 70 or 80 point player on the Avs.

These types of trades for youngish guys are always fun. Hall for Larsson. Johansen for Jones. Drouin for Sergachev.

A lot of uncertainty/high potential that makes them hard to predict.

One of these guys took a huge leap forward over the last two seasons. The other hasn’t done diddly shit outside of a good playoff run. Both of these teams only have a positional need for guy #1. Kevin Adams is a grade A moron.

Do Avalanche trainers/medical staff know something about Byram others don't??

is colorodo going for it? wow
they think they can beat the oil?
Clearly going for it, yes. I didn't think they'd be this aggressive. They still have some holes to patch, but they got quite a bit better today, I think. Perhaps more importantly, Mittelstadt might fix the #2 centre problem for years to come...
