Should be a win win for both teams. Bo was stuck behind Toews and Makar and was getting heavily outplayed by Girard this season as well. Avs needed a cost controlled 2C in the worst way possible.

Plus with Sean Walker on D makes Bo less needed as well.

My initial reaction - gfy Kevyn Adams.

My measured reaction -

We need another top-4 d-man, but Byram wasn't on my list. Hope it works out.

Go enjoy the playoffs, Casey. It's a shame you couldn't do that here.

I think it was either him or Girard. Surprisingly Girard has been very solid since coming back from NHLPA. Also probably have to do with the terms on G's contract while Byram is at 3,85$ signed for 2 years.
Makes complete sense. I've always thought Girard was underrated and would make good trade bait. But if he's thriving, and you're able to move Byram for an excellent return like this, I guess you keep what's working and turn your young asset in for a great return.

I think Byram for Mitts was mentioned in a rumor thread.

Good call whoever said it.

Don't get this at all from a Buffalo POV. We're stacked at LHD, and have plenty of smooth-skating, puck-moving D.

Don't get this one bit.

For our best player this year.

Enjoy Mitts, Colorado -- he'll be your perfect 2C.
How is Mittelstadt's defensive game? How is he on the powerplay?

A bit more risk with Byram but a ton of upside. He’s kind of a blueline version of Cozens. He has shown tremendous ability at the NHL level but consistency and decision making still a work in progress. And the injury risk.

CM has really developed into a great player, although I think he is what he is at this point - which is a real nice fit for the Avs behind MacK.

Several posters hypothesized this trade months ago IIRC…the evaluation was spot on.
