I assume today's moves will mean goodbye to Demelo? Can't see Jaros going away. Too many D on each side now.

Dorion is so dumb he couldn't even make himself not look bad with this signing bonus sell-off.
He could've just swapped Luchuk for a better prospect worth 3rd rounder like Rodewald or Paul or Chlapik and no one would've talked about selling picks. But nope, he leaves it in plain sight.

It cost the Leafs a 1st to dump Marleau's 1YR 6.25M deal

What did it cost them to dump Zaitsev's 5YR 22.5M deal? Nothing at all.

Dorion completely failed to take advantage of a desperate team, and managed to get completely bent over, despite having all the leverage.

Different situations, though. Marleau was to be bought out, so the team acquiring him was to get no value from the actual player.
Zaitsev is obviously seen as a valuable asset that will help this team, according to Dorion and company. A lot of Leaf fans on these boards (and a few articles I’ve read) have mentioned that Zaitsev asked to be traded. So, it’s not as if Ottawa thinks they’re taking on a terrible contract. They value him, and probably think Brown can be a good player here, too. I’m not educated enough on these guys to say how good they are, but I’ll give them a chance and hope for the best

Giving up the pick is garbage, though. Not surprising as we’ve seen this before, but c’mon. We’re rebuilding and this team is on track to spend peanuts relative to most other teams. Pay the damn bonus and keep the pick.

I said this in the trade thread, but if we don't plan on extending him, his value might be highest right now.

I doubt any team is fooled into thinking he is an actual top 4 defender, but I could see teams viewing him as a solid NHL RD who is on a very cap friendly contract.

Although, I'd guess based on our current moves, we want to contend for the playoffs now, and would probably rather keep him for the depth instead of maybe getting a 3rd round pick.

With Hainsey we have 7 defensemen on the roster, of whom Wolanin and Jaros are waiver-exempt. Seems like a reasonable defense situation.
Pretty sure usually we have it worse at the start of the season.

I am camping out here in leafs country.

Leafers think we did better in trade.

I think it is pretty amusing that we just got rid of our whipping boy, and no one is planning a parade down Bank Street.

@Micklebot had the PD pick thrown in pages back. Good call. That pick is the only that maybe stings a little down the road.

Only Dorion could pee away another deal. This team is a complete embarrassment and I feel sorry for the players stuck here... How can a fan trust and believe in anything these clowns say. Yeah we’re rebuilding by being the AHL of the NHL?!?! We’re rebuilding by giving picks away? Morion had all the leverage and still got completely shafted... but that’s not what any of this is about.. it’s about EM saving 4 mil. This team can fold for all I care.

Yeah it wont sting at all having Zaitsev here for 5 years being healthy scratch worthy.

I think Zaitsev will be better than many are suggesting but honestly we should have skipped the trade and just signed Hainsey. We probably could have just traded the 3rd for Brown straight up if we really wanted him...

We may be forced to postpone the FYOUS
I think we can just amend the acronym to Five Years Of Unprecedented Sucking. We've entered year 3.

If we only keep it to 5, I'll be surprised. We look like a team that is staying in the basement for about a decade. We are the new Edmonton.

Doing the leafs favors so they can come into your own rink blow you out and have their own fans cheering it on. It just keeps getting worse and worse to be a sens fan. Its like a nightmare you cant wake up from, every time something more terrible happens you think its going to end and it just doesnt.

I think the team values Z.
And that is fine,Toronto needed the cap space and have shown they would have paid to get it...Why on earth is it us surrendering picks here??We are the ones that had the leverage,we didnt need to make this move...Toronto did
