I'd say he's average defensively on most nights, but sometimes he can be bad. I think aside from Zidlicky our defensemen are almost all on par or better than he is defensively. Difference is he is light-years better than any of ours offensively.

I'll assume you forgot Gelinas as being worse.

sutters shook playoff coaching led to two of the most embarssing series losses in team history, give PDB the 2009 team he had and they make at least the ECF.

Yea, I agree. That team should have went much deeper than it did. The way Sutter linematched Pandolfo-Madden-Shanahan against the Staal's and used White-Matteau as the "shutdown pairing" just drove me up the ****ing wall.

Also heard talk from players about Paul MacLean, but @SunGarrioch reports Devils haven't sought permission from Sens to speak with him, yet.

MacLean is available and could step in pretty quickly. Not surprising his name is popping up. Who else is really out there? Torts? Bylsma? I don't see either of them really being options.

We should have an interim finish out the year and hire a long-term coach in the offseason.

Finding a new permanent coach to guide your team for the forseeable future, on a few days notice, is not a good idea.

Why would the Sens need to give permission for the Devils to talk to Maclean? The Sens just fired him.

I think he stills gets paid out the rest of his contract over the remaining years. So he is probably technically still on their books.

Why would we need Sens permission to talk to them ?? He was fired ?

He's still technically under contract with the Sens, even though he's not the coach they still ahve to pay the remainder of his contract. They own his "rights", if you will.

Oh, thanks.

I am pretty sure the Sens would give permission.

Greedy Melnyk does not like having to pay a coach that was just fired. ;)

I wonder if some of the players have seen Maclean around the facility lately? Otherwise I don't see how they would know any more than anyone. And to do with the Ottawa papers not knowing of Lou asking for permission, Lou would've told the Sens not to leak this and I am sure they will oblige to get Maclean off the books.

This x100
We aren't hiring a new concession worker , we are hiring a head coach that is going to be moulding our team for the foreseeable future . I really hope we don't hire someone within two days of firing Deboer and just going with whoever is currently unemployed and happens to be available ......:help:

The greatest hockey mystery I have is why is Bob McKenize always right?

How the hades do you amass the sum of contacts necessary to break every dang hockey story, from Manitoba, to Massachusetts, to Moscow?

People trust him, he's a legitimately nice guy and intelligent guy who is super professional and never has an agenda. That's very rare in sports journalism.

Don't be surprised if it's Brent Sutter. Not any insider info, just seems like Lou would want him back. No one else would give him an NHL head coaching job again. Lou probably forgave him too.

It was Vanderbeek that really sounded off after he left. I remember him ripping him.

Not if you believe Chere that Sutter left cause he didn't like being under Lou's thumb lol

I agree. I wouldn't mind handing over the keys to the interim at the end of the year, if he does a pretty good job. But I don't see the need of having a long term replacement just yet.

Oh yeah, that's right. Another stupid pot stirring and inaccuracy in that article.

I thought that was dumb too.
