I wonder if some of the players have seen Maclean around the facility lately? Otherwise I don't see how they would know any more than anyone. And to do with the Ottawa papers not knowing of Lou asking for permission, Lou would've told the Sens not to leak this and I am sure they will oblige to get Maclean off the books.

All the players got this text message * hi, Pete fired, walrus hired, explain at morning skate, bring flippers. Status quo."

Not if you believe Chere that Sutter left cause he didn't like being under Lou's thumb lol

I don't belive anything Chere says haha. I know he trolls around here because his headlines are almost direct responses to what we are discussing on any given night.

I agree an intrem makes the most sense unless Lou really thinks Maclean or Disco Dan is the long term answer.

I also don't believe this is been happening for just a few days. I'd bet money Lou started the gears going a week ago on this.

I'm fine with this decision. I thought he was a good coach that made some extremely stupid decisions. Either way I don't think this team is going anywhere anytime soon anyway.

How about Dallas Eakins?

Just kidding!

The only thing that Pete did wrong was he did not quite himself knowing he had no team to play.

All team stats are very consistent, bottom 7 in every stat category. Even crappy teams shine in one thing or the other. This team sucks at everything. It's the 90% of the team that needs to go.

Keep: Zid, Ruutu, Gio, Cam, and Kinkaid. Trade Shneider (he is great, but we can trade him and play the kid) for a very offensive forward.

That is tremendous.

But that said, if it is Paul, I am going to pray he at least gives guys like Larsson and YaYo more minutes(or in Lars case...ANY minutes). I know it sounds like he's Deboer Pt. 2 but unlike Pete, he has no "love" for either Petey Jr.(Harrold) or munchkin-man(Gio).

Keep Tortorella and Laviolette the **** away from my hockey club.

I'll entertain Paul MacLean and Guy Boucher, preferably the former in regards to our young defensemen. (See: The development of Erik Karlsson.)

You can thank Schneider for the fact that the Devils have double digits in the wins column so far. Take a good, hard look at the garbage playing in front of him on a nightly basis and maybe it'll make sense.

You can thank Schneider too for losing on his own games we had the lead. His short side is leaking like ive never seen before on any goaltender.

At this point i dont really care what Lou does. Whether he gets a new HC today, trades rest of the team for picks or young players. This team is a bust till 2018 with little to no chance of getting into playoffs. The NHL.com analysis of the Devils' situation is a brutal read. Worst asset management when you write it down. This is a good direction, Id like if Lou was fired and the new guy announces a strategy: Cup in 2020 or so. If we still continue to glue and repair type of status quo crap im just going to keep on skimming through highlights, no point in watching a losing team, losing franchise and a losing management try to survive. At least other ****** teams like Edmonton have a fast, sometimes entertaining young core, that is at least sometimes entertaining to watch. We dont. All we have is blueline redirections by Ruutu / some 4th liner and nothing else going on with first 2 lines. Coaching change is a good start, now lets see how rest of the stuff unfolds.

Hire an interim coach to evaluate the players for trade/keep purposes this season.

Replace or permanently hire in April/May so a new coach is involved in Draft/Free Agency.

A permanent hiring right now is a mistake imo. It sends the message that this roster is good enough to fight for the playoffs and it sure as hell isnt.

Need to start preparing for the future which begins in April 2015.

Given that the morning skate is scheduled at 10:30 am at the Prudential Center you just need to post someone (who knows something about hockey) at the parking garage to break the story of who the next Devil's coach is.

I guess you can argue that Lou got the best available coach. Maclean was a finalist for coach of the year in 2012 and won the coach of the year in 2013. Recent accomplishments for a coaching candidate.

We should have an interim finish out the year and hire a long-term coach in the offseason.

Finding a new permanent coach to guide your team for the forseeable future, on a few days notice, is not a good idea.

Mentioned this earlier yesterday and agree. Nothing to salvage for the rest of this season. The time between now and game 82 should serve as a pretty big evaluation period and it would hopefully be at that point that we've moved a player or two and have several contracts coming off the books. You go into summer with that in hand, starting with a new coach and a fresher roster that needs to start being built.

The greatest hockey mystery I have is why is Bob McKenize always right?

How the hades do you amass the sum of contacts necessary to break every dang hockey story, from Manitoba, to Massachusetts, to Moscow?

Thats an easy one. DeBoer literally told McKenzie that he was fired. So Lou fires DeBoer. DeBoer needs future employment. DeBoer's dream job is Toronto. DeBoer sits in his living room chair. DeBoer thinks about what his next move should be. I've got it. Lets give McKenzie a ring to let him know the news before anyone else knows.

If someone from the outside is hired there is no chance he coaches tonight without a practice, you would think.

This kind of stuff happens on the regular in any sports league, he'll be behind the bench tonight, just as Lemaire was in 2010-11 and despite him being here the season prior, the roster was pretty different from April of 2010 when he last coached to December 2010 when he was brought back in.

The rest of the coaching staff that has been here will be running the morning skate and will be essentially "head coaching" the game with whoever the new guy is for this first game or two while he gets used to stuff. Nothing new.

You don't wait you get right to work.

In terms of evaluation we pretty much know what we've got at this point. Maybe except for Kinkaid (with only the 3 starts). Perhaps the priority should be building up the stats of Ryder, Jagr, and Zidlicky (if he would waive his NTC). Give them 1st line power play time. Play them with the best players. Best case scenario would be a 2nd round pick for all 3, but at this point I don't think they would fetch that. I also wish that Matteau, Black, and Boucher would all get hot down in the AHL which would merit a call up.

I wasn't talking so much talent, more so building the team going forward - some of the forwards we have will have to be brought back, unless we plan on going to the FA market fully or bringing up a bunch of guys from the A or a mixture of both because we need to fill the forward lineup going into next season as a result of expiring contracts and guys needing to be moved because of their lack of skill.

So you evaluate what players you want to move forward with as we try to turn things back in the right direction.

Nick Foligno might be the best UFA at F next off season. I wonder if he would like to play with his Dad. Only problem is that it looks like it would take a Clarkson type contract and he is a LW and we already have Henrique and Cammalleri who are better at LW than C. So would it be worth holding onto Foligno as an AC in the new regime.

Hedberg :sarcasm:

Is this season even salvageable? Devils need to pick up something like 63 points to get to 94.

If MacLean is truly a PDB whats the point of firing PDB in the first place? Internal pressure?

Someone else will hire MacLean if we don't get to him ASAP.

If we aren't gonna go that route then we should have Lou take over coaching duties on an interm basis.
