The Penguins' mid season coaching change is often referred to in these discussions. But I don't see firing Mike Johnston, who had no NHL experience or success, and firing Claude Julien, as being all that similar. And whoever comes in is certainly not going to have the loaded roster Mike Sullivan inherited.

Someone compared the Bruins to the Vikings in one of these threads. Here's another - the Texans from a couple of years ago. Fans were reactionary in calling for the head of coach Gary Kubiak, when the real problem was at QB.

Well two years after being fired, Kubiak won the Superbowl; the Texans' QB situation still hasn't been properly addressed (though they tried), and the team is still stuck in the mud.

So firing Julien may or may not be the right thing to do. A change could be beneficial to both sides. But until the real problems are addressed, any coaching change will likely have minimal effect.

Thank God the Bruins finally won - because those have been the two teams I've cheered for since the early 70s and... quite possibly the two most frustrating heart-breaking soul-crushing franchises (outside of the Cup win) you could choose. Wouldn't wish those two franchises on anyone. Wish I could go back in time.

This team is so mis-managed, that even one of the most accomplished NHL Coaches (all all time/winner %) is about to get blasted.

Obvious and convenient targets (excuses/ I get it).

I ran into one of Claude's old time pals today/tonight.

He told me "it seems like it'll be just a matter or hours or days."

The Bruins have a brutal rep in this area; the home of Wayne Smith, PC, and my new pal whom I aint' gunna mention.

Our team a is very dysfunctional gang

The Bruins are still very much alive for a wild card spot which means 2 home playoff games at home.

They absolutely should not fire Julien for a multitude of reasons. I think Travis Yost's article says it best. I'm sure you guys have read it but if not http://www.tsn.ca/bruins-should-wait-on-deciding-julien-s-future-1.653630

It points out what we've been seeing all year long. A team that plays well, but is having zero luck finding the back of the net. That seemingly HAS to turn around at some point. They out chance their opponents most nights but just aren't finishing. That is not Juliens fault.

Ah, the old don't do anything and all the problems will fix themselves. I don't buy it, cut the fat, let the kids play, rebuild the right way.

Waiting for things to turn around usually doesn't pan out too well. Especially when there's been little sign that it will after half of the season.

Only as good as your last win in the league with a large dose of " What have you done for us lately".

When things are not going well there has to be someone who must shoulder the lions share of criticism. Players, coaches and senior management are understandably front and centre as targets available for venting frustration. They all have at some point one way or another. Julien's visibility and profile lends itself to him being seen as a much more obvious target than any one player or other management member.

When you are around in this league as long as Claude has been you develop a pretty thick skin from dealing with the ebb add flow that comes with your team being good, bad or stuck in neutral. The Joanie Mitchell lyric of " you don't know what you've got till it's gone" seems appropriate to this situation.

There just does not seem to be an easy way out of this with a light at the end of the tunnel. 97 we had that look at the first over-all pick. 2006 had that PC, Chara, Savard component. Hope and optimism, despite the Lewis debacle, and it was fun. This just seems to be crushing, and the power struggle is going to take some good people down.

The problem - one of them, anyways - is the bruins lack of depth ... everywhere. The top guys have been struggling, and their poor depth hasn't been able to carry the team when needed. You can't expect to win games on a daily basis with ONE line, or 2-3 players. It doesn't work anymore.

Haha it was me. Vikings, Bruins and Mets for me. Torturous sports life for my 40 year sport watching career.

I live in NJ. I could have liked the Devils, Giants and Yankees and had 3 cups, 4 Super Bowls and 7 World Series titles, but what fun would that be?

It's sad that in this loser point league really crappy teams can and will make the playoffs every year. They'll never win the cup by doing that either.

Well it only makes sense. Claude causing Rask to have eye problems. That's a fireable offense.

Don't get me wrong. I don't WANT it to happen. I just think it will.

Claude also didn't sign Beleskey, Hayes, Backes, or Liles. I'm in the "he's doing what he can with what he has" camp. But I still think he gets sacrificed at the altar of public perception... or change for the sake of change... or shake it up-ism... or something like that.

Anyone who thinks Julien is getting the most he can out of this line-up is out of their minds.

The list of players that he has mis-managed this season:

Backes
Nash
Schaller
Carlo
Chara
Spooner
Czarnik
Colin

Morrow
Belesky

Really the only thing I wish he did differently was play C Miller more. I don't know what else I would have liked to see.

Dust, how did Claude mismanage Carlo? He got the minutes he earned and is hitting the rookie wall. Is that on Julien?

This team needs something. I hate to see CJ go but it looks like it's going to need to happen. The team knows his job is on the line, and they still can't get it done. If they wanna save the season something has to happen now. Otherwise I hope Neely takes the brunt of everything and is canned.
